  • Dear Parent/Carer, As We Approach Longer
E: [email protected] T: 01858 440770 W: www.robertsmyth.tgacademy.org.uk Dear Parent/Carer, As we approach longer days and a bit more brightness this seems a good time to reflect on the many positives that we have experienced at the start of 2020. The full breadth of the wider curriculum at our Academy has burst into life already this year. I am delighted to commend the brilliant work of the PE Faculty on an incredible ‘Lock In’ event which involved students from Year 10 through to 13 participating in a 24-hour team sports in aid of charity. This event was started by Erin and Ben Brant who launched the games with an inspirational introduction which many students have talked to me about personally. I would like to thank all members of the PE faculty for organising and leading this event for the students so that this fundraising could be made possible. I would also like to thank all members of our fantastic Science Faculty, supporting members of staff and student leaders for their contributions to the 11th Annual Primary Science Conference held in collaboration with The Ogden Trust. This conference engaged over 180 local primary-aged students in experiential science activities and projects and it was an incredible success. I have never seen so much dry ice in one venue, and I must confess that the sight of Bragg Hall disappearing into manufactured fog was a less calm moment, but the kids loved it! We have seen fantastic achievements made by students beyond the classroom and through the Performing Arts.

TELA Partnership Challenge Brockington College 20-21 April 2016 The Programme: This programme follows on from another successful Partnership Challenge programme across Leicestershire. The group of schools taking part in this programme are: Brockington College Robert Smyth Academy Groby Community College Thomas Estley Community College Leysland High School The Participants: Two members of the senior leadership teams from each institution were given an introductory session on the methodology behind the programme and the lessons learned from previous programmes. The team that undertook the partnership challenge at Brockington College were: Mandy Bearne Assistant Headteacher Groby Community College Mandi Collins Vice Principal Thomas Estley Community College Sue Jones Principal Robert Smyth Academy Vicki Cropp Senior Leader Redmoor Academy (One Day) John Taylor TaylorGill Ltd Educational Consultant (Ofsted Trained) Methodology: The two-day visit consisted of 51 lesson observations, each about 20 to 25 minutes long, and the vast majority of staff in the College were observed. Almost all of the lesson observations were done jointly with College staff. Individual lessons were graded and feedback was offered to all staff observed, on the particular strengths seen and any areas for development. Members of the team had 10 meetings with staff with different responsibilities, recently or newly qualified teachers, one meeting with the governors and two meetings with the pupils. Pupils’ work, especially in English and mathematics, was scrutinised, jointly with the Faculty Heads. For some of these meetings link governors were present to observe.

  • January 2011 Bulletin 1 Home/College Communication Public Buses from Braunstone Area
Name: _____________________________________________ Form: _______________________ Dear Parents/Carers and Friends of the College, Message from Principal BROCKINGTON MATTERS The early start to the Christmas holiday was perhaps welcomed by pupils at the end of a long term, but the Dates for Your Diary damage caused by frozen pipes was the result of boiler failure and meant a hectic and fraught holiday period for our Premises Officers. Their reaction to the crisis was above Year 8 Consultation Evenings: and beyond the call of duty as they were in attendance at Band 1: Monday 28 March 2011 (BROCT) the college throughout the holiday period, including Band 2: Wednesday 30 March 2011 (KINGL) appearances on Christmas Day! Only through their commitment were we able to open in time for the Spring Year 7 Consultation Evenings: Term and we owe them our grateful thanks. As a consequence of the damage, we still have issues with the Band 1: Monday 6 June 2011 (BROCT) air handling unit that services the college canteen as we Band 2: Wednesday 8 June 2011 (KINGL) await manufacture of an essential part, although this will be resolved shortly. Year 9 Commemoration Evening: July 2011 It has, however, been a very pleasing start to the new term. I am delighted to announce that Brockington College qualified and performed well at the National Final of the First Lego Challenge, after we swept away all opposition at the Regional Heat. The Enrichment Day of Thursday 13 January was a great success and enjoyed by all pupils, who benefitted from learning about other cultures or about different careers.

  • Brockington Bulletin December 2019 Edition Sadie Batstone Principal
Website: www.brockington.leics.sch.uk | Facebook: www.facebook.com/brockingtoncollege | Twitter: www.twitter.com/brockingtoncoll Brockington Bulletin December 2019 Edition At the end of a very full and exciting term, I’d like to wish all our parents and carers a very happy Christmas and a restful new year. Brockington Christmas show page 2 The autumn term has been a busy one; I’d like to pay tribute to all the staff at Brockington who have worked tirelessly this term and often given time and effort beyond what’s expected of them, for the benefit of our students. This edition of the bulletin gives just a small insight into so many activities that students have taken part in this term. I have also been very pleased with students across all year groups who have, in the vast majority of cases, worked exceptionally hard, behaved well and been involved in a variety of different activities. This is what we ask of students and we know that the return on this is a bright and successful future. Across all year groups, there has been a substantial increase in the number of reward points given Sadie Batstone to students in recognition of their efforts in lessons and for playing an important part in the wider life of the college. It’s always a Principal pleasure, and a proud moment, for me to write R3s to parents/carers informing you of the exceptional way our students contribute Former Year 11 to the life of the college. presentation evening page 6 As I write, Year 11 students have received their mock examination results, and for most students this has provided them with a positive picture as they head, in the new year, into their final full term at Brockington.
