October 2018 Photo by Clickery Photography a message From Your Destination Marketing Team VCB MEMBERS AND FRIENDS, October was a month of planning for the future. The board of directors met for their annual retreat where they took time to talk about the future and visit inspiring businesses within the County who Ohave dreamed big and made their dreams a reality. Many hoteliers attended our Tourism Together training on human trafficking. The training provided tools and solutions to identify and stop human trafficking activity within their hotels. The event was in conjunction with B.E.S.T and Washington Trafficking Prevention who led the training and offered ongoing web-based training to equip managers in instructing their teams. A detective from Thurston County Sherriff’s office was also on-hand to provide a local contact and talk about their efforts within Thurston County. Human trafficking is an important issue that can impact a hotel’s reputation and can put lives in danger. We appreciate our hoteliers dedication to this nationwide issue. The sales team hosted seven event planners for a two-day FAM tour highlighting local venues. FAM tours are hosted once a year for qualified meeting planners to better understand the region’s offerings and build relationships with the sales teams in the community. Thank you to everyone who hosted and went above and beyond to showcase Thurston County as a meetings destination. scorecard At-A-Glance marketing & OCT OCT YTD % ANNUAL ANNUAL communications goals ACTUAL GOAL ACTUAL GOAL GOAL Unique Web Visits 15,435 8,087 153,166 158% 97,040 Social Media Total Reach 121,318 122,322 2,044,146 139% 1,467,867 Earned Media Placements 19 12 123 87% 141 PR Impressions 156,639,195 25,166,667 412,227,895 136% 302 million articles published SEATTLE’S CHILD, Sept. 17, 2018* ONLY IN YOUR STATE, Oct. 9, 2018 Fall is in the Air: Take the Kids to a Farm or You’re Sure to Fall in Love with this Autumn Getaway Pumpkin Patch in Washington RED TRICYCLE, Sept. 24, 2018 SEATTLE MAGAZINE, Oct. 11, 2018 Incredible Corn Mazes Worth Traveling For Must List featured Boocoda Casket Races PARENTMAP, Sept. 27, 2018* KOMO SEATTLE REFINED, Oct. 13, 2018 10 Terrific Pumpkin Patches Around the WA’s Very Own Halloweentown is 20 Miles South Sound and Beyond Outside Olympia KING 5 EVENING, Oct. 1, 2018 KOMO NEWS, Oct. 13, 2018 Rolling on the Olympia Beer and Bike Tour WA’s Very Own Halloweentown is 20 Miles THE WEEK, October, 2018 Outside Olympia Olympia, Wash., Manages to Maintain its KING 5 EVENING, Oct. 16, 2018 Groove Amid Plenty of Changes Tumwater Falls Park in Olympia is the Perfect Place SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE, Oct. 7, 2018 to Soak up Nature this Fall October Travel Deals Featured 1889, Oct. 17, 2018 Best Places for Coffee RED TRICYCLE, Oct. 4, 2018 13 Fall Getaways ONLY IN YOUR STATE, Oct. 24, 2018 Not Many People Know About this Wolf Sanctuary KING 5 EVENING, Oct. 9, 2018 Right Here in Washington 25 Things We Love About Fall in the Pacific Northwest AAA JOURNEY, October-November 2018 Your Guide to Top Festivals, Shows, Celebrations MSN.COM, Oct. 9, 2018 and More 25 Things We Love About Fall AAA JOURNEY, October 2018 Capitol Craftsmanship Details Legislative Building *Previously unreported for September SEATTLE TIMES, Oct. 25, 2018 Welcome to ‘Boo-coda,’ the tiny Washington town that goes hard for Halloween fam tours hosted JESSICA WICK, ONLY IN YOUR STATE SUZI PRATT, @SUZIPRATT LAURA PEDRICK, JOHNNY JET OCT OCT YTD % ANNUAL ANNUAL GROUP SALES GOALS ACTUAL GOAL ACTUAL GOAL GOAL Lead Room Nights 420 1,108 15,971 92% 17,290* Booked Room Nights 277 243 5,274 138% 3,796* Leads 10 12 121 63% 191* Leads Booked 10 4 60 102% 59* *Oops we made a mistake.
