He has proven himself to be a highly qualified and inspiring conductor with a steady and clear technique of conducting. His wide knowledge and “cultura” allow him to reach in a deep and complete way the message of an orchestral score. Danish-Swedish conductor Martin Åkerwall studied music at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen (percussion, piano, composition) and became part of the Finnish conductor tradition with Esa-Pekka Salonen and Sakari Oramo studying orchestral conducting with Jorma Panula at The Sibelius Academy in Helsinki. Åkerwall made his first professional appearances as a conductor with Danish symphony orchestras while still a student in 1989. A remarkable debut with Tivoli Symphony Orchestra, Copenhagen in 1991 gained Martin Åkerwall a positive and firm reputation as one of Denmark´s most promising talents. Furthermore he was awarded with several distinguished Danish prizes. Martin Åkerwall – Biography Åkerwall began his career at German theaters as solo-rèpetiteur, principal coach and 1st Conductor before he enjoyed positions as opera and ballet conductor at prominent theatres such as the Bern State Opera in Switzerland, The Royal Danish Theater and The Finnish Opera. In this respect his artistic level has been praised by the press as well as world-class artists such as Dimitri Kitajenko, Giancarlo Andretta, Miguel Gomez Martinez, Michael Schønwandt, Rodion Shchedrin and Henryk Gorecki. Martin Åkerwall has regularly worked with the Scandinavian symphony orchestras and ensembles. He has appeared in concerts with orchestras in Denmark, Sweden, Finland, USA, France, Singapore, Prague, Germany and Switzerland. Martin Åkerwall has a keen interest in the development of young talent in music. He has worked with several youth orchestras in Europe and Asia. Over a period of three years as artistic director of The Tivoli Boys Guard he refined its culture and brought the youngsters to a high artistic level while serving as Chief Conductor of the Royal Life Guards Band. Martin Åkerwall spends his free time composing and kayaking. In the course of his life, he has practiced yoga and meditation. The b. tells of a demonic fiddler who seduces an aristocratic lady; afterwards she sees no alternative to killinG him, but she is so haunted by his melody that she dances herself to death. Sibelius composed this, his only b. score, in 1913. Later versions by Lemanis in Riga (1936), R. HiGhtower for de Cuevas B. (1951), and Irja Koskkinen [!] in Helsinki (1955). This is the description of Sibelius’s Scaramouche, Op. 71, in The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Ballet. Initially, however, Sibelius’s Scaramouche was not a ballet but a pantomime. It was completed in 1913, to a Danish text of the same name by Poul Knudsen, with the subtitle ‘Tragic Pantomime’. The title of the work refers to Italian theatre, to the commedia dell’arte Scaramuccia character. Although the title of the work is Scaramouche, its main character is the female dancing role Blondelaine. After Scaramouche was completed, it was then more or less forgotten until it was published five years later, whereupon plans for a performance were constantly being made until it was eventually premièred in 1922. Performances of Scaramouche have 1 attracted little attention, and also Sibelius’s music has remained unknown. It did not become more widely known until the 1990s, when the first full-length recording of this remarkable composition – lasting more than an hour – appeared. Previous research There is very little previous research on Sibelius’s Scaramouche.

Vor kurzem gab sie ihr gefeiertes Debüt beim BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. An der Finnischen Nationaloper debütierte Helsing 2008 mit Adriana Mater von Kaija Saariaho. Sie leitete eine Reihe von Uraufführungen, wie Momo an der Royal Danish Opera, Magnus-Maria von Karólína Eiríksdóttir auf Tournee in Skandinavien sowie Hallin Janne von Jukka Linkola mit der Jyväskylä Sinfonia.     MUSEUMS KNOWLEDGE, DEMOCRACY AND TRANSFORMATION PROGRAM SEMINAR MAY 26-27, 2014 KRONBORG CASTLE AND DANISH MARITIME MUSEUM MUSEUMS KNOWLEDGE, DEMOCRACY AND TRANSFORMATION Knowledge, democracy and transformation are key markers for the annual international seminar about the 2013-results of the User Survey carried out at more than 200 museums and cultural institutions in collaboration with the Danish Agency for Culture. The seminar is organized in collaboration with the Association of Danish Museums and the group responsible for the project ‘Museums and Cultural Institutions as Spaces for Citizenship’. The seminar focuses on four areas: Learning and Identity, Gender-mainstreaming, Intercultural Dialogue and Cultural Tourism. Each area will be reflected from a strategic management perspective, from an international perspective and discussed among the participants in the seminar. The seminar addresses managers, curators, educators and communication employees in museums and cultural institutions as well as researchers, students and professors from the universities. The seminar language is English. Time: May 26-27, 2014. Venue: Kronborg Castle and Danish Maritime Museum, Helsingør. With reservations for minor changes to the program.     Janne Oksanen (b. 1994) is a young finnish pianist based in Helsinki. He has performed as a soloist and chamber musician widely in Finland as well as in France, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Lithuania and USA. Giving piano recitals since age 15 he has developed a highly professional attitude towards concertizing and thus his musical personality has had the proper time to mature already starting from an early age. He has a wide repertoire reaching all the way from early Baroque to the 21st Century music. However, its focal point stands in the Classical and Romantic eras. In February 2018 he performed the complete works of Toivo Kuula in Sibafest, Helsinki Music Centre. Oksanen has been succesful in various national and international competitions. He has been awarded in the 8th Nordic Piano Competition 2017 in Sweden, in Madetoja Piano Competition 2012 in Oulu, Finland and in Citta di Ghioggia Competition in Italy 2009. In 2011 he played as soloist with the Tapiola Youth Symphony Orchestra. In Spring 2016 he received the Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance. He is currently studying in the Master’s Program in Sibelius Academy with Risto-Matti Marin. In 2014-2015 he studied in Conservatoire de Paris with Denis Pascal. His previous teachers include Teppo Koivisto and Rebekka Angervo. Chamber music has an important role in his musicianship. He has studied with Paavo Pohjola and Marko Ylönen in Sibelius Academy and with Itamar Golan in Conservatoire de Paris and performed with Yuval Gotlibovich, for example. Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival has offered him great insight in to ensemble playing during various editions of the festival and master class.

General information Jorma Panula is one of the most recognized and admired teaching conductors today. Known as “maestro of maestros”, he trained several famous conductors, such as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, Osmo Vänska, Petri Sakari, Sakari Oramo, Atso Almila, among others. Maestro Panula has been a professor of Sibelius Academy and the Copenhagen Royal Academy. Today Jorma Panula is a guest conductor and a professor of conducting courses all over the world, in places such as Tanglewood, Aspen, Vaasa (Finland), Moscow, Paris, Australia, Holland and Spain. Atso Almila is composer, conductor, professor of Conducting and Orchestra Schooling. Jorma Panula's student at the Sibelius-Academy 1974-77. Almila has been worked as Music Chief of the Finnish National Theatre, Conductor of Tampere Philharmonic, of Joensuu Orchestra, of Kuopio Orchestra and principal guest of Seinäjoki Orchestra. Teacher of conducting at the Sibelius-Academy 1991-2010 and Professor of Conducting and Orchestral Education from August 2013. Furthermore, he usually teaches Master Classes in China, Finland, Ireland and Switzerland. The masterclass will take place in the Hotel Miranda & Suizo, located in the historic center of San Lorenzo del Escorial (Madrid – Spain), in front of the emblematic Monastery built by Philip the Second at the end of the XVIth century (see http://www.mirandasuizo.com/portada).
