Signed : Date : August 2020 ii Universitas Sumatera Utara ABSTRAK Penelitian ini berjudul “Description of Moral Values in Shawn Mendes's Selected Songs”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai-nilai moral dan manfaat dari nilai moral tersebut dalam kehidupan yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu Shawn Mendes. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Metode Kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah beberapa lagu pilihan dari Shawn Mendes. Teknik yang digunakan untuk menganalisis data yaitu dengan melakukan beberapa langkah, antara lain (1) membaca dan mendengarkan 5 lirik dari beberapa lagu pilihan Shawn Mendes, (2) memahami isi dari lirik lagu Shawn Mendes, dan (3) menganalisis nilai-nilai moral serta manfaat dari nilai moral tersebut dalam kehidupan yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu Shawn Mendes. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa lirik lagu Shawn Mendes adalah lagu yang menarik untuk diteliti. Lagu Shawn Mendes ini menyangkut pengalaman kehidupan manusia yang di cerminkan melalui sosial, yang mengacu pada keberanian, percaya diri, cinta dan kasih sayang. Nilai moral yang bermanfaat dalam kehidupan manusia yang digambarkan dalam lirik lagu Shawn Mendes adalah nilai moral sosial. Kata kunci : Shawn Mendes, Moral Values, Music, Song iii Universitas Sumatera Utara ABSTRACT This study entitled "A Description of Moral Values in Shawn Mendes's Selected Songs". This study aimed to describe the moral values and benefits of the moral values in the life depicted in the lyrics Shawn Mendes. The method used in this research is qualitative method. The data source of this research is a few of Shawn Mendes selected songs. The technique used to analyze the data by performing a few steps, among others, (1) read and listen to 5 lyrics Shawn Mendes selected songs, (2) understand the content of the lyrics Shawn Mendes, and (3) analyze the moral values and benefits of the moral values in the life depicted in the lyrics Shawn Mendes. The analysis showed that the Shawn Mendes song lyrics is a song that is interesting to study. Shawn Mendes song is concerned that in the experience of human life through the social mirror, which refers to the bravery, confident, love and affection. Moral values that are useful in human life is portrayed in the lyrics Shawn Mendes is the social moral values.
