18 - 24 FEBRUARY 2019 ISSUE N: 99 President Salome Zourabichvili Paid Visits to and Germany 17-21.02.2019 • – Within the frames of her working visit President Salome Zourabichvili held meetings with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, President of the Senate Gérard Larcher and Director-General of the UNESCO Audrey Azoulay. • Discussed: Enhancing -France bilateral relations and strengthening France’s support for Georgia in multilateral cooperation formats, Georgia's European and Euro-Atlantic aspirations, situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, Black Sea security, cybersecurity, economic and cultural cooperation. • President Zourabichvili and President Macron signed the Declaration of Cooperation on Establishing Dimitri Amilakhvari Georgian-French Dialogue that aims at advancing cooperation in political and parliamentary areas, defence and security, trade and economy, culture and education. • President Zourabichvili had a working lunch with women leaders representing the Women’s Forum for the Economy & Society, delivered a public lecture “Georgia and Europe: Opportunities in Uncertain Times” at Paris Institute of Political Studies (SciencesPo), participated in the discussion at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI) and met Georgian students and diaspora representatives. MORE • Berlin – In the framework of her official visit President Zourabichvili met with President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel. • Discussed: Bilateral relations, Georgia’s European integration process, enhancing economic and cultural cooperation, situation in Georgia’s occupied territories, challenges facing the country and Russian aggressive policy towards Georgia. • President Zourabichvili joined the political breakfast at the Körber Foundation and discussed Georgia’s European integration process, the country’s occupied territories, Russian aggressive policy and Georgia-Germany bilateral relations with German experts. Also met with Georgian students and diaspora representatives. • Presidential delegation included Minister of Foreign Affairs Davit Zalkaliani. MORE One Year has Passed Since the Murder of Archil Tatunashvili • 22 February 2019 marks one year since the brutal murder of Archil Tatunashvili by Russian occupation regime in Tskhinvali. The illegal detention, torture and murder of Archil Tatunashvili is a clear example of the difficult human rights situation and ethnic persecution in Georgia’s occupied territories. • The Government of Georgia spares no efforts to take effective measures, together with the international community, to ensure that justice is delivered. FY19 Consolidated Appropriations Act Provides Increased Financial Support to Georgia 20.02.2019 WASHINGTON, D.C. • The FY19 Consolidated Appropriations Act includes strong supportive language towards Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, sending a clear message globally that the U.S. stands firmly by its strategic partner. • The document indicates that none of the funds appropriated by this Act may be made available to support the Russian occupation of the Georgian territories and prohibits funding to those countries and programmes, which recognize and/or promote the so-called independence of occupied Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia. • As for the financial assistance, the Act increases funding for Georgia by 22 million USD amounting FOLLOW US ON: $127,025,000 million USD in total for the fiscal year 2019.
