We all remember such places, and revisiting those memories does us much good. So it is that many of our parishioners, who have grown up in this parish, and attended its school, recall the memories they have of their experiences here, both joyful and sorrowful, and remember those who have touched their lives and nourished their faith in this church. Most especially, our St. Vincent Ferrer School has been the backbone and support of parents whose first duty toward their children is to bring them up in the Faith. Families flourish in the Faith and in life because of taking advantage of such a solid educational foundation. Now we see the new addition to our school that will accommodate some more students in the upcoming years. It was certainly needed, based on projections gathered from preliminary studies. It’s a beautiful edifice that draws upon the tradition of the past existing building (in architectural style) and blends in the new with the old (which is being refurbished to complement the new). From this school, many have gone forward into the world motivated by the best Catholic-Christian principles of putting Faith into action. Their numerous achievements exemplify the best preparation a Catholic school can give. Some others have gone out into the world, but haven’t flourished in the way they could, simply because they didn’t make the effort to learn how to use God’s gifts in ways that benefit them. Because of different life experiences, they even may have given up on God (though He never gives up on them), drifting away from the solid foundation given them in our school. We shouldn’t be wholly discouraged if some of our family and some friends have strayed from the Church. If it seems they are far from the Lord, there is always hope they will yield to the strength of Christ’s love. Because the seed was planted and nurtured in Catholic settings, we can pray and hope that someday they will come back to the Lord. Saint is not unlike many of those we encounter every day. As a young man, Saint Augustine had a keen and bright intellect combined with a desire to know the truth. In this, he is not unlike many young men and women today. Despite this love for truth, however, Augustine fell into serious errors. It is well known that his conversion took a wholly individual path, because it was not a case of arriving for the first time at the Catholic faith, but of rediscovering it. He had lost it, but was convinced that he was abandoning only the Church, not Christ. Does that sound familiar to you? He re-connected with God, and came to experience Him to the point that it changes the lives of everyone, who in every age, have the grace to encounter Him. For Augustine, this conversion spanned more than two decades, before he humbled himself before the Lord. Through persistent pleading, prayers, and tears of his devout mother, St. Monica, he encountered Jesus and was never the same again. He returned to the faith he received from his mother. He allowed the totality of his life to be converted to the Lord and become one of the greatest witnesses and teachers of the Christian life. We need to keep in mind his example and the patient prayers of his mother, Saint Monica, as we seek to bring back to the Church and back to the practice of the Catholic Faith those who have strayed from Our Lord’s path. Make the effort to participate in every way possible to help build a culture of growth, where believers make a very intentional decision to be faithful disciples of Jesus Christ, out of which flows the commitment to live a stewardship way of life. This is what our school does – what every good Catholic school tries to do. So, if you haven’t yet supported our school’s growth for the future, now may be the time to reconsider your own commitment to our parish, our Faith and our God. It’s never too late to support our efforts, for we want to form our students in the best way possible for their future – on earth and in heaven!

The Capital Campaign

Living Our Faith, Building Our Future Naming Opportunities & Giving Societies

As we draw closer to the completion of the school construction, we are entering the recognition phase of the Capital Campaign. The campaign provides several ways for donors to receive name recognition on or in specific places of the new school area.

The courtyard walkway allows donors of $1,000 or more to have a brick engraved and installed in the Commemorative Walkway circle.

Gifts of $3,000 or more to Living Our Faith, Building Our Future Campaign will be acknowledged in a permanent way on the campus as part of our donor recognition wall. Donations are organized by level and listed according to the donor's preference and installed in the lobby area of the new school building.

Finally, being a Pastor’s Guild donor or larger, affords you an opportunity to personalize your gift. The north or south wing of the school, many individual classrooms, or playground, for example, are available. These naming opportunities are very limited, and several remain available.

You can add to your previous or existing pledge to reach a level which would allow you to personalize such a location. These naming rights are permanent and will be a lasting sign of your commitment to our school and church.

We ask that you strongly reflect on placing a new pledge or increase your existing pledge.

This is our school and church, we count on everyone to contribute according to their means. If you would like to discuss options for donating or naming possibilities, please call me .

RCIA ENROLLMENT

RCIA, (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) is a process of initiation in four stages in which the Church brings a person who is not baptized into the faith and full membership of the Catholic Church. It also meets the need of a person who might have been baptized as a Catholic as a child, but then left later in life without any further involvement or catechesis. It can support them as they come to learn about Catholic life, receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist and come to share in the life of the Church. It is also used to provide formation and education for someone baptized in another Christian denomination who now wishes to be received into full communion with the Catholic Church.

A heartfelt thank you to Monsignor Tom for supporting our SVF youth group and the Steubenville Conference. We couldn’t do this without his blessing. Many thanks to the parents and families of the Steubenville attendees. Your sacrifice and active participation in choosing to strengthen your teen’s faith life is priceless. It’s been said, “It takes a village to raise a child”, and many took part in making the Steubenville experience a possibility for our teens. As for the chaperones, they did a fantastic job! Thank you all so much for serving God through youth ministry. Your sacrifice of sleep, re-arranged work schedules and being present for the teens and I are so appreciated. You’re the best!! A big thank you to our Knights of Columbus, the SVF Care Ministry and several parishioners for donations toward scholarships, bus expenses, t-shirts and food. All of the above mentioned stewards of the Lord were remembered in prayer during our weekend, as we expressed gratitude for their example and generosity. This year’s Steubenville theme was “BELONG.” It was a profound understanding of truly believing we are each a child of God. We all BELONG to our almighty Father and for that we give THANKS.

1 John 3:1

“See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.”

St. Vincent Ferrer Care Ministry

School will be starting next week. The stores are filled with parents and children who are buying clothes and supplies. Do you remember that first day of school each year? Everyone tried to look their best - new clothes, new shoes, new backpacks filled with pens, pencils, and all sorts of classroom needs. In Delray Beach we have so many children who want to look their best but their parents can’t afford to buy them new clothes or shoes. The St. Vincent Ferrer Care Ministry receives many phone calls before the start of school. We send children and their parents to places where they can select school clothes so that the student from a lower income household will feel proud walking into the classroom.

The dedicated members of the SVFCM would like to thank you for your generous 1st Friday donations. Your support makes it possible for our Care Ministers to give parents vouchers from Goodwill so that their children can hold their heads high and feel proud on that first day of school.

DO YOU HAVE A USED CAR? Our parish is in need of a gently used late model vehicle to be used by visiting clergy and special guests of the parish. The vehicle would be used primarily for visits to the hospital, bringing Holy Communion to the homebound and general short trips in the area. If you have a vehicle of reasonably good quality and condition that you’re no longer in need of, or have the ability to bless us with a newer vehicle, please contact Dan Siller at the Parish Office 561- 276-6892, ext. 308. Your donation is tax deductible and will help to serve many others. Thank you in advance 14 for your consideration and willingness to help.

They support the work of our church. 2. It keeps money in our community. For every $100 spent at a locally owned business, $68 goes back into the community and your tax base. For every $100 spent at a chain store, only $43 comes back. Online purchases bring nothing back to our local community.

3. Keeps our community unique.Where we shop, where we eat and have fun—all of it makes our community home. Our one-of-a-kind businesses are an integral part of the distinctive character of our community.

4. Creates more good jobs. Small local businesses are the largest employer nationally and in our community.

5. Get better service. Local businesses often hire people with a better understanding of the products they are selling and take more time to get to know customers.
