With 16.000 population, surroundings are mainly marked by its awesome estuary and beaches. Here you will find all services. Viveiro is one of the most beautiful places in the “Mariña Lucense” region. Its main economical activity is fishing, with Celeiro Port as one of the main income sources and also one of the most important fishing ports in Galicia. Hake is the highlight product. Viveiro is also famous for “Resurrection Festival”, one of the most famous hard rock & hard core music festivals that lasts for a week at the beginning of every July. It is the green Galicia that looks to the Can- tabric sea. Almost 100 kms of coast and nature paradises. From the peaceful O Bar- queiro stuary, to the awesome “As Catedrais” beach where you will find a huge natural monument created by the sea erosion. From the Sor River (freshwater fish and wild reserve), Eo River stuary (biosphere reserve). But also Foz, Viveiro and Ribadeo, villages with ports with an historical and tradition past. Sargadelos -in Cervo city council- one of the most remarkable and iconic galician pottery. Inland you will also find two hidden treasures: Serra do Xistral (Xistral moun- tains) and Mondoñedo. Xistral is dark and mysterious, peat soil and full of wild horses. Mondoñedo, in St. James North Way, has a ancient religious history with a wonderful eight centuries old cathedral. Mariña Lucense’s gastronomy is famous for the Cantabric Sea fish and Lou- renzá beans, flagship product. We need to highlight the value of the “Celeiro’s hake” and Burela tuna. Also worth mentioning is the Muras foal meat 3 DEPORTE Excmo. GALEGO Concello Activities for companions and post-competition raiders The area offers many different activities for companions. Not only leisure, but also food with a wide offer of good restaurants to enjoy fish and seafood. Viveiro is well provided of charming accommodation, wi- sely located to be able to follow the race at the meantime. One of the most touristic and visited places is La Playa de Las Catedrales (The Cathedrals Beach) in Barreiros. It’s rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, which it’s recommended to visite during low tide. “Punta do Fuciño do Porco” (The nose of the pig) in O Vicedo -ten kilometers away from Viveiro- is another very touristic and famous place for sightseeing. You will find a wooden passageway that leads to the end of a cape at the entrance of the Viveiro estuary. All the region is crowded with attractive beaches. You can also enjoy trekking or mountain bike following the Can- tabric Nature Way, which is all signed with red placards all along the track. 4 DEPORTE Excmo.     SAN MARTIÑO DE MONDOÑEDO / 1235 SAN MARTIÑO DE MONDOÑEDO La iglesia de San Martiño de Mondoñedo se encuentra en medio de un pintoresco paisaje de la brumosa y lluviosa Galicia cantábrica. Está situada en la comarca de la Mariña Lucense, a tan solo 5 km de Foz, municipio al que pertenece la parroquia de San Martín. La mejor ruta para llegar es a través de la A-8 o autovía del Cantábrico, ya sea procedentes de Baamonde y Vilalba, o de Riba- deo y Luarca, donde tomaremos el desvío señalizado de Foz (N-642) y, antes de entrar en la villa, nos desviaremos por una carretera local (LU-152) que nos conducirá hasta el ábside de la iglesia. Se trata de uno de los conjuntos más singulares del arte medieval gallego, en el que se mezcla de manera indisociable la realidad con la leyenda. Aunque la iglesia se la conoce popularmente co- mo “la catedral más antigua de España”, este resulta un término exagerado, ya que el edificio actual no es anterior a finales del siglo XI, si bien reaprovecha muchos elementos de la fábrica del siglo X. Como es bien sabido, sus orígenes están ligados a la traslación, por parte de Alfonso III, en el año 866, de la antigua sede de Dumio (Portugal) a este lugar, conocido como Mondoñedo de Foz (Mendunieto, Mondumeto o Monte Dumetum).
