Posebno bih istakla prof. dr. sc. Mladena Miloša, koji me podržavao tijekom studija i izrade doktorske disertacije. Zahvalnost dugujem i doc. dr. sc. Zoranu Grubaču i dekanu, prof. dr. sc. Istakla bih izv. prof. dr. sc. Edinu Šertović i mr. Sebila Rekanović i mr. sc. Eterična ulja M. pulegium i T. montanum, u usporedbi s uljima istih biljaka s drugih područja, pokazuju sličan sastav s razlikom u udjelu glavnih komponenti, dok ulja S. subspicata i C. vulgare pokazuju veću varijabilnost u sastavu i sadržaju. Eterična ulja pokazuju slab antioksidacijski potencijal i umjerenu sposobnost inhibicije enzima AChE i BChE. Ispitivani ekstrakti pokazuju dobar antioksidacijski potencijal. Vodeni ekstrakti pokazuju vrlo dobre, a metanolni ekstrakti dobre rezultate u zaštiti lipida od oksidacije. U pogledu zaštite proteina od oksidacije svi ekstrakti pokazuju prooksidacijsko djelovanje. Ispitivani ekstrakti pokazuju slabu sposobnost inhibicije AChE. Slabu sposobnost inhibicije BChE pokazuju samo metanolni ekstrakt S. subspicata te vodeni ekstrakti M. pulegium i T. montanum. Ključne riječi: eterično ulje,

A brine shrimp (Artemia salina L.) lethality test was established for the present study and the cytotoxicity was reported in terms of 50 % lethal concentration (LC50). The LC50 values of the extracts were calculated using an EPA Probit Analysis Program (version 1.5). The A. salina were hatched and the active shrimps were collected for use in the assay. Ten A. salina were added to different concentrations of the extracts, the surviving shrimps were counted after a period of 24 h and the lethality concentration LC50 was assessed. The water and methanol extracts of these plants showed cytotoxicity against brine shrimp. The cytotoxic activities of the extracts ranged from 34.66-643.652 µg/mL. The strongest cytotoxic activity were obtained from the methanol extract of T. zygioides. This significant lethality of the extracts from three species could be the source of potential cytotoxic components in these species but this will require further investigation.

(2012): Red List of vascular plants of the Czech Republic: 3rd edition. – Preslia 84: 631–645. The knowledge of the flora of the Czech Republic has substantially improved since the second ver- sion of the national Red List was published, mainly due to large-scale field recording during the last decade and the resulting large national databases. In this paper, an updated Red List is presented and compared with the previous editions of 1979 and 2000. The complete updated Red List consists of 1720 taxa (listed in Electronic Appendix 1), accounting for more then a half (59.2%) of the native flora of the Czech Republic. Of the Red-Listed taxa, 156 (9.1% of the total number on the list) are in the A categories, which include taxa that have vanished from the flora or are not known to occur at present, 471 (27.4%) are classified as critically threatened, 357 (20.8%) as threatened and 356 (20.7%) as endangered. From 1979 to 2000 to 2012, there has been an increase in the total number of taxa included in the Red List (from 1190 to 1627 to 1720) and in most categories, mainly for the following reasons: (i) The continuing human pressure on many natural and semi-natural habitats is reflected in the increased vulnerability or level of threat to many vascular plants; some vulnerable species therefore became endangered, those endangered critically threatened, while species until recently not classified may be included in the Red List as vulnerable or even endangered.

Background and Objectives: While nature-based solutions are sought in many fields, the Lamiaceae family is well-known as an important ecosystem services provider. In Greece, this family counts 111 endemic taxa and the aim of the present study is to summarize their known occurrences, properties and chemical composition and analyze the correlations between these characteristics. Materials and Methods: After reviewing all available literature on the studied taxa, statistical and GIS spatial analyses were conducted. Results: The known properties of the endemic Lamiaceae taxa refer mostly to medicinal and antimicrobial ones, but also concern nutritional and environmental aspects. Essential oils compositions with high concentrations in molecules of interest (e.g., carvacrol, caryphyllene oxide, etc.) have been found in some taxa, suggesting unexploited applications for these taxa.

Until the early decades of the 19th century, those who studied galls and their inhabitants referred to these plant abnormalities as galls only. Friedrich Thomas first used the term ‘cecidium’ in 1873, deriving it from kékis (Greek), which means ‘something abnormal with an oozing discharge’. Consequently, the study of galls came to be known as Cecidology. One significant name in cecidology is Alessandro Trotter (1874~1967). He founded Marcellia, a journal dedicated to cecidology, in 1902, which serviced science until the 1980s.The inaugural issue of Marcellia features his article ‘Progresso ed importanza degli studi cecidologici’ (Progress and importance of cecidological studies). This article includes many thought-provoking statements. In the present article, I have reflected on a few selected passages from the Trotter article, evaluating the progress we have made in the last c. 100 years. We have brought to light scores of unknown gall systems and their inducing agents. Between the 1930s and 1980s, the European School of Cecidology established by Ernst Küster in Gießen, Germany, followed by Henri-Jean Maresquelle and Jean Meyer in Strasbourg, France blazed new trails in interpreting galls and their relationships with the inducing and associated arthropods, using an autecological approach.
