For many people, an appropriate, well-designed and well-fitted wheelchair can be the first step towards inclusion and participation in society. When the need is not met, people with disabilities are isolated and do not have access to the same opportunities as others within their own communities. Providing wheelchairs that are fit for the purpose not only enhances mobility but begins a process of opening up a world of education, work and social life [1]. The development of national policies and increased training opportunities in the design, production and supply of wheelchairs are essential next steps. Every human being need to move from one place another to fulfill his requirements and to accomplish that requirements he will travel from one place to another place by walking which is a basic medium of transportation. But it is exceptional in case of physically disables (Persons don’t have both legs). In order to support and help such a person’s we designed a special manually lever operated wheel chair. -

BRAC Junior Track Cycling Camp May 3-4, 2014 USOC Memorial Park Velodrome Colorado Springs, CO USAC Permit - Pending We are pleased to announce the first official 2014 BRAC Junior Track Cycling Camp. The camp takes place over the weekend of May 3-4. We will learn to ride on the USOC Memorial Park Velodrome, which is located in Colorado Springs. The riders will also get to spend Saturday night at the Olympic Training Center. Three meals from the training center are included along with snacks and lunch at the velodrome on Sunday. During camp riders will learn how to ride on the track. This includes learning the standard means of communication, common riding practices, and predictable riding. All which ensure safety while racing and training on the track. We will also go over the track bicycle in general, cover how to change gears, and give advice on which gears to ride for certain events and training. Finally we will learn about the different track races and get to practice racing! It should be noted that most track racing for juniors is scheduled for the new Boulder Valley Velodrome (BVV) in Erie. In order to race at the BVV riders must have completed a track cycling certification course. This camp is a wonderful opportunity to satisfy the certification process and get a head start on the track cycling season! Who Can Attend: Male and Female riders with a current racing age between 11-18. Riders must hold a 2014 USA Cycling Road/Track racing license. Friction-Producing Mechanisms of a Bicycle Chain _ Effectiveness of Chain Lubricants for Reducing Frictional Losses Copyright ©2014 Friction Facts, LLC rev 5-13-14 Overview The friction-producing mechanisms of a bicycle chain moving through a derailleur-style drivetrain are unique and relatively complex. These friction- producing mechanisms arise from friction created in individual links, which are subjected to multiple regions of both high and low pressure, reciprocating sliding forces, and stiction. As such, testing methods for chain efficiency and chain lubricants must address these complex mechanisms. This paper explores the details of how friction is created in a bicycle chain in a modern-derailleur style drivetrain, the role of chain lubricants to minimize friction in a chain, and the limitations of commonly-used friction test methods. This paper also suggests a testing process to analyze the efficiency of a chain and lubricant in a manner specifically relevant to chain friction-producing mechanisms. Friction-Producing Mechanisms of a Chain From a simplified standpoint, the friction created (wasted energy) by a roller chain is generally proportional to: [chain tension] x [sine of lateral deflection] x [link articulation angle at a given engagement or disengagement point] x [number of link articulations per unit time at that point] x [total engagement and disengagement points in the complete drivetrain]. This basic formula has been demonstrated by multiple drivetrain studies and, more recently, by tests performed by Friction Facts. Essentially, friction is created each time an individual link, under a finite level of tension, bends (articulates) as it engages or disengages the teeth of a cog, pulley, or chainring. -

Injuries Involving Off-Road Cycling
o RIGINAL RESEARCH_______________________________ Injuries Involving Off-road Cycling Frederick P. Rivara, MD, MPH; Diane C. Thompson, MS; Robert S. Thompson, MD; and Viviana Rebolledo Seattle, Washington BACKGROUND. Data on injuries due to off-road bicycling are scarce, but do indicate that injuries in this sport are frequent. We examined the pattern of injuries to off-road riders as part of a larger study of bicycle injuries and helmet use. METHODS. We undertook a prospective study of bicycle-related injuries identified at seven emergency depart ments in Seattle, Washington, between March 1992 and August 1994. Hospitalized patients and medical examin ers’ cases were included. Detailed questionnaires and abstraction of all medical records provided information on crash and rider characteristics and injury type and severity. RESULTS. A total of 3390 injured riders participated, representing an 88% response rate. Of all injured cyclists, 127 (3.7%) were injured riding “off road.” Seventy-three percent of off-road cyclists were 20 to 39 years of age, and 86.6% were male. Helmet use was 80.3% for off-road cyclists as compared with 49.5% for other cyclists. The number of head and face injuries for the off-road cyclists was only 40% of the number incurred by other cyclists. Four percent of off-road cyclists had severe injuries (Injury Severity Score >8), and 6.3% were hospital ized, compared with 6.8% and 9.4%, respectively, of other cyclists. CONCLUSIONS. The majority of off-road bicycling injuries are minor. Off-road cyclists are less likely to have head and face injuries than other cyclists and are more likely to wear helmets. -
