It was released in August for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360; Mafia II: Director's Cut was released by Feral Interactive in December 2011. The game is a sequel to the 2002 Mafia series and the second part of the Mafia series. Set in the fictional Empire Bay (based on New York, as well as aspects of Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit) during the 1940s and 1950s, the story follows the Sikillian-American mobster and war veteran Vito Scaletta, who becomes embroiled in a power struggle among the city's mafia family crime while attempting to repay his father's debts and provide a better lifestyle. The game is played from a third-person point of view and its world is moved on foot or by vehicle. The criminal activity of the player's character can provoke a response from law enforcement, as measured by the wanted system that regulates the aggression of their reaction. Development began in 2003, shortly after the release of the first Mafia game. On release, Mafia II received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise particularly directed at history, although the restrictive world design was criticized. Its successor, Mafia III, was released in 2016. The remastered game, entitled Mafia II: Definitive Edition, was developed by d3t Limited and Hangar 13 and released by 2K Games on May 19, 2020. The final edition was also included in the Mafia: Trilogy package, released on September 25, 2020. Gameplay Player Character is involved in a shootout with the authorities. Police awareness in the game works in the same way as in the previous game, although now the player can pay bribes after committing a crime. However, escaping from the authorities will still lead to the fact that they will shoot the player. The game takes place in the 1940s - early 1950s era of Empire Bay, a fictional city based on New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit. The game has 50 cars, as well as licensed music from that era. Depending on the weather during the game, the vehicles are handled differently. For example, at the beginning of the In winter, vehicles are likely to slip on the road because of the ice. Many firearms from previous return games, such as Thompson's submachine gun and 1911 Colt, as well as pump action shotguns. The new World War II weapon, the MG 42 and the Beretta Model 38, also appear in the game. Interaction with objects in the environment includes two action buttons: standard action and violent action (for example, when stealing a car, the player can choose either to choose his lock or break the window glass) used in context sensitive situations. The map is on, as in the original Mafia game, but the checkpoint system has been completely revised. The new controls include a cover- up system that allows the player to take cover behind objects (such as generators, walls and large boxes) and shoot enemies rather than simply entering into an arbitrary squat to pose for them. This feature provides tactical support against enemies and has become the most important technique of the genre. Cutting down the game are created by a game engine in real time. For example, if a player drives in a car and the logging begins, the player will drive the same car with the same condition (damaged or intact) and will wear the same clothes. There are exceptions, however, such as the opening sequence and the scene that depicts the explosion of the Empire Arms Hotel in Chapter 10, which are pre- visualized video clips. The game includes three different in-game radio stations (Empire Central Radio, Empire Classical Radio and Delta Radio) with licensed music, news and advertising. Radio stations include music from a variety of genres including rock 'n' roll, big band, rhythm and blues and doo-wop, with licensed songs by Chuck Berry, The Everly Brothers, Dean Martin, Little Richard, Muddy Waters, Buddy Holly and Crickets, Bing Crosby, Bill Haley and his comets, Jordets, Richie Valenza, Beau Diddley, Synopsis Player Character drives through the streets of Empire Bay. Mafia II mainly takes place in 1951, from spring to autumn, with the first few chapters set in early 1945, in winter. Set almost a decade after the first game, Mafia II takes place between two different periods of time - the mid-1940s and early 1950s - in the fictional American city of Empire Bay; The first chapter of the game takes place in an unnamed city in Sicily, while the sixth is in prison somewhere outside Empire Bay. The city is located on the east coast of the United States and is divided by a river, and consists of several districts, including affluent suburbs, slums and apartment blocks for various immigrant city races, including Irish, African-American, Chinese and Italian, and industrial complexes, with the city supported by a large port, a railway station, a large prison outside the city, several parks, and a collection of shopping malls and supermarkets. The game's main story sees the city divided between a number of criminal outfits, including three mafia families: the Falcone family, the Vinci family, and the Clemente family-Chinese triad outfit, the Irish mafia, and several street gangs. The design of the city, including architectural styles, cultures, public transportation and attractions, are influenced by real American cities, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Boston and Detroit, during the two respective periods of time used in the game. Two of the DLC game packages, Betrayal of Jimmy and Jimmy Vendetta, also took place in the early 1950s, but in another canon, the installation features mostly new gangs and characters. The third DLC, The Adventures of Joe, is set during the main storyline events and bridges the gap between the two time periods. Plot In 1943, Sicilian immigrant Vito Scaletta was arrested during a robbery and decided to join the United States Army to avoid jail. During Operation Husky, he is captured by the Italians, but watches in fear how his executioners may be surrendering to the Allies on the orders of a local mafia boss. Returning home to Empire Bay in early 1945 due to injury, Vito reunites with his childhood friend Joe Barbaro, who supplies him with forged documents about his dismissal, and learns that his late father left his family in debt to the shark-loan. He briefly works for his father's former employer Derek Pappalardo, who then recommends it to Henry Tomasino, the man in the Clemente family of crime, because of his own ties to Joe. Working with Joe for both Henry and caporige Luca Gurino, Vito provides enough money to pay off his father's debt, but is arrested for stealing and selling food stamps and sentenced to ten years in prison. While in prison, he befriended Leo Galante, consiglieri Don Frank Vinci, but learns that his mother died, and all the money he received, spent on her funeral. In 1951, Vito was released on parole due to his ties to Leo. Reuniting with Joe, the couple make their way up the ranks of the Falcone family, led by Dona Carlo Falcone and his underboss Eddie Scarpa. After Vito rescues two Carlo people from Luca, whom he leaves dead, he earns the respect of Carlo, making him and Joe made men in his organization, allowing them to provide a better lifestyle. Shortly thereafter, upon learning that the Clements were conducting drug operations, fighting the commission's traditions, Carlo ordered Vito and Joe to kill Don Alberto Clemente. After hitting Henry coming to Eddie through Vito in search of a new job, and ordered to kill Leo. Although Vito warns Leo and helps him city, the Falcons nonetheless welcome Henry into the family. Vito believes that his personal life will fall into turmoil after his sister Francesca distances himself from him because of his mafia lifestyle, and his house is destroyed in the incendiary bomb of the Irish mafia. To regain his fortune, Vito joins Joe and Henry to profit from the sale of heroin bought from the city triads. However, Carlo, who also conducts drug operations behind the Commission's back, learns about it and demands a reduction in their profits. When Vito and Joe meet with Henry to discuss the matter, they witness his publicly executed Triads, who then escape with their money. In retaliation, the pair kill triads guard Jae Yun Wong, despite his claims that Henry was a federal informant but unable to get the money. Indebted to the shark-credit Bruno Levin, whose money they lent to deal with heroin, Vito and Joe take the job to pay off the debt, including the murder of retired mobster Tommy Angelo. Vito also kills Derek after learning that he ordered the murder of his father. When the Vinci family kidnaps and tortures Joe, Vito rescues him, but the couple learns that their actions have sparked a war between the mafia and the triads.
