Some parishes in days gone by would have elaborate out- door processions with the priest carrying the consecrated host in a and parishion- ers following along and returning to the Church . For those unable to be present with us today and for the homebound who have not been able to receive during the pandemic, we realize how difficult this time is. We remind you to take time to call to mind the Presence of God and invite the Lord into your heart and soul. He is with you through the Holy Spirit to comfort and strengthen and love you. Graduates of 2020: I’m still waiting for your information as re- quested in the letter I sent to your home. Please respond by email- ing me at [email protected]. Also this is the corrected email to send Senior photos/ Cap & Gown photos to Roberta at Rob- [email protected]. I know of at least seven youth graduating from our parish, but there may be a few more, so please email me. I also need to know if you would like to celebrate on June 28 at the 10 a.m. , I need to know how many will attend. Priests’ Retirement Collection will be on Father’s Day Weekend (June 20/21). Gruss has asked that we continue this annual collection on the usual date. There should be en- velopes in your packets for this purpose. Difficult Times: Pandemic, Pandemonium Flood, and Prejudice. Life is hard enough just dealing with the unpredictable pandemic and unexpected flood, but prejudice is something we can all eliminate. Prejudice is learned. Be mindful or your words and actions when you are speaking or acting in front of your children or grandchildren. They catch your attitudes. Often ignorance of facts or fear of the unknown contribute to prejudice. Imagine if every time you stepped out of your house to walk along the sidewalk or drove in your car, you had to be fearful of any law enforcement approaching you, not to mention other people who seem deter- mined to beat you into submission or death. I wonder how it is that people cannot see the beauty of all God’s people. Let us remember the words of Jesus “to love one another as we love ourselves.” We are called to love every person of every color not just our own color. On this Feast of Corpus Christi, let us remember that we are One Body. All people of every color and race are loved by God. Every person is made in the image of God. God dwells within each and every person of every color. Racist acts are sinful because they violate justice. These forms of evil have no place in a “just” society. And a true “just” society will never exist until they are eradicated. “The peaceful protests we are seeing across our nation reflect the justified frustration and anger of millions of our brothers and sisters who even today find themselves affronted with racist attitudes and behaviors. Legitimate protests should not be exploited by persons who have taken advantage of this situation in order to disrupt and promote their own evil . Burning and looting buildings, destroying the livelihoods of people in their communities, as we have seen across the country, does not advance the cause of racial equality and human dignity. These actions too must be condemned. It could also be seen as its own form of racism. “Yes, society remains in need of healing. Perhaps in prayer, we ask Jesus to help us to see the ‘tarnished reflection of ourselves’ so that healing may take place in us first. He wants to reveal our true reflection, so that we can see who we really are M someone pre- cious, someone beautiful, someone for whom he was willing to die. If we do not see the true dignity in ourselves, it will always be difficult to see the true dignity in others. “I ask you to join me in praying for a new outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon us, the world and all societies, so that the fruits of the Spirit M joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness M may break down evil and violence, destroying the walls of selfish- ness, intolerance and hatred, thus building a world we have never seen before M the true Kingdom of God.” Community Events Weekly Bible Study for Youth with Father Adam Maher Father Maher serves as parochial vicar at Holy Apostles Parish in Ruth and St. Isidore Parish in Paris- ville. After all, sharing in the same spiritual food and sacred meal, they become what they eat and reveal the Divine Image. There is so much power for healing in the community of believers.
