The case is under further investigation. • Tow 2 Tow Towing Company 100 block of Winner Avenue, CB reported on July 3rd they were the victim of Larceny of Motor Vehicle. Warrant has been issued for person responsible. • Jessica Flynn (23) reported on July 4th she was the victim of Larceny in the 100 block of Carolina Sands Drive, CB. PARKS AND RECREATION • A virtual meeting was held this week with representatives with the North Carolina Wildlife Federation regarding restoration of the shoreline of the Lake. At the meeting, we discussed the potential of plantings to restore the shoreline. Additional research and a site visit with NCWF representatives will be held in the future. • We are continuing to gather the needed items to submit the LWCF grant application for the playground at Lake Park. The grant is due on August 1, 2020. • Staff is working on installing landscape fabric at McDonald Park in preparation of the installation of the playground borders and much. • The Joseph Ryder Lewis Park Sign Committee is completing the interpretive signs for the park. A meeting will be held at the park on Tuesday, July 14th at 11:30 AM to discuss the signage and the next steps for the park. • Staff created an updated No Contact Beach Wheelchair Flyer. Our new flyer includes proper cleaning instructions upon returning rented Beach Wheelchairs. • The Carolina Beach Community Building will be a One-Stop Voting location this year. The building will be unavailable for rentals from Tuesday, October 12, 2020, through Monday, November 2, 2020.

Events: • Staff had issued a filming permit to Lighthouse Films to shoot a music video from 7/14-7/16. The majority of the filming will take place inside the Fat Pelican. There will be one shot on Canal and one shot adjacent to the Municipal docks. • The Annual Got Em On Fishing Tourney will take place this weekend. The Fisherman’s Lot will host the weigh in station. There will be no alcohol or band this year to further accommodate state restrictions for distancing etc.

Code Enforcement: • We had two (2) tall grass complaints this week; homeowners were contacted; letters sent and met with good results. • There were also two (2) junk vehicle complaints, one was towed by CBPD and the other put in a garage. • A report of yard debris being dumped into a wooded lot on Snapper Lane; perpetrator was contacted and he agreed to move the branches to his property; Town staff picked up the debris on their regular schedule.

• The Planning Department dealt with several violations this week and is in the process of issuing letters related to those violations • Planning submitted the Quarterly CAMA report for Exemptions, Final Inspections, and Minor Permits issued in the 4th Quarter of 2019/2020

OPERATIONS

WWTP: • Staff performed all operational/maintenance tasks and laboratory analyses as necessary to maintain compliance with all applicable permits.

Utility Staff: • Locates, work orders and tap verifications, clearing permits. • Continuous maintenance of existing road cuts. • Water meter cut on, off and verifications. • Replace broken meter registers and MTU’s. • Install irrigation services and meters. • Repair water service leaks. • Respond to reported sewer backup.

Public Works:

Beach Rake: Per permit guidance, Staff operated the beach rake, from Harper to Hamlet, last week following the July 4th holiday crowds.

Pedestrian Safety Improvements: Vegetative undergrowth was cut back on North and South side of Ocean Boulevard in proximity to the Island Greenway intersection, to improve line of sight between vehicles and pedestrians. Contractor is scheduling programming of the FLIR sensors on the newly replaced signal system.

Environmental:

Beach Front • Replaced missing dog sings • Operated the beach rake from Hamlet Ave. to Pelican Ln. • Replaced 4 burnt trach cans

Freeman Park • Repaired poles and rope • Repairing trash pods

Boardwalk • Removed sand from the beach accesses • Continued building a wall along the accesses to prevent sand build up • Repaired the waterlines on the south showers

Signage • Continued to straighten signs throughout town • Installed No Parking signs in the 100 block of Florence Ave.
