Teachers and students reunited in-person and remotely in August after having finished the 2020 school year completely virtual. Armed with masks and following all state and health department guidelines, St. Bede was able to make the necessary changes and sacrifices to provide in-person learning four days a week, with remote learning one day a week. We are proud to say we were successfully able to provide a sense of community in the hallways for the entire first semester. Students, faculty, and staff committed themselves to respecting those around them, allowing for traditional experiences to still occur. Masses and prayer services were able to take place outside, such as the annual Welcome Mass, held on the football field and in the stands. Students were still able to enjoy the tradition of Spirit Day in a fun and safe environment. Virtual open houses for 8th graders and boarding students were held, as well as virtual parent-teacher conferences. St. Bede often talks about a commitment to life-long learning and this semester was a true test of this commitment, as learning was alive and well in the classrooms of St. Bede. Teachers and students learned side-by-side as teachers adapted their teaching style and curriculum delivery to include using technology to connect remote students live into the classroom. Remote learners, locally and ten boarding students, unable to return to the U.S. due to travel restrictions, engaged with teachers daily. St. Bede teachers and administrators have continued to show their passion for learning, finding solutions, and overcoming challenges to best meet the academic and spiritual needs of all of our students during this global pandemic. In an extraordinary year filled with new challenges, we are thankful for each additional day that we have shared together at St. Bede. 2 • THE BEDAN RECORD Athletics CROSS COUNTRY Brady Mudge ’22 placed 77th out of 114 runners at the IHSA Class 1A XC Sectional at Seneca this year.
