FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Choreographers join forces for ATL show TETHERING March 21 – 22, 2020 Atlanta, GA DANCE AEGIS presents TETHERING March 21-22, 2020 at Windmill Arts Center w/ special guests Acts of Matter & Julio Medina TETHERING is the 5th celebration of the founding of two collaborative dance companies, Andrea Knowlton’s multimedia and choreographic platform – Dance Aegis -- and Rebecca Lemme’s deeply felt performance project – Acts of Matter. After sharing 5 seasons in Los Angeles, the two companies take the stage in Atlanta for the first time together, while welcoming special guest Julio Medina. Please stay to share and mingle with the arts community. Andrea Knowlton is a Choreographer, Educator, and the Artistic Director of DANCE AEGIS, a movement based creative platform. She has presented choreography in New York City (Dance Theater Workshop, Triskelion Arts, Cunningham Studios), Los Angeles (California Institute of the Arts, REDCAT, Bootleg Theater, Live Arts Los Angeles), and Atlanta (Kennesaw State University, Southwest Arts Center). She directs and screens films nationally and internationally. As an educator she has worked at California Institute of the Arts, California State University Long Beach, and Pasadena City College. She is on faculty at Kennesaw State University’s Department of Dance, located outside of Atlanta, GA. Knowlton is a certified Yoga Instructor. She holds a BFA in Dance/Choreography from Marymount Manhattan College in NYC, and an MFA in Choreography/Integrated Media from California Institute of the Arts. @dance_aegis Rebecca Lemme is a choreographer, performer, educator, and visual artist. Founded in 2014, she is Artistic Director of the performance group Acts of Matter, which performs regularly throughout the Los Angeles and Chicago areas. Rebecca has been commissioned and presented by LA Contemporary Dance Company, Heidi Duckler Dance Theater, Santa Barbara Dance Theater, Los Angeles Theater Center, River North Dance Chicago, Thodos' New Dances, California Institute of the Arts, Loyola Marymount University, Columbia College Chicago, Loyola University Chicago, Grand Valley State University, The Harvest Chicago Contemporary Dance Festival, and was a finalist chosen to present choreography for The A.W.A.R.D. Show! 2010: Chicago. Additionally, she has toured nationally with contemporary repertory companies Luna Negra Dance Theater, River North Dance Chicago, and Hedwig Dances. She teaches extensively in contemporary, ballet, and jazz technique for which she has created a unique movement style that encourages investigation, problem solving, and versatility. Currently an Assistant Professor at California State University, Long Beach and formerly a full-time faculty member at CalArts, she has additionally been on faculty at Columbia College Chicago, Roosevelt University, Hubbard Street’s Lou Conte Dance Studio, Visceral Dance Center, and Joffrey Ballet Chicago. Rebecca holds a BA in English and Theater from Princeton University and an MFA in Choreography from California Institute of the Arts. IG @actsofmatter Julio Medina is an artist and educator from Los Angeles. His work draws from various movement practices such as breaking, boxing, House, Latin social dance, and modern dance, engaging mediums such as movement, film, sound and text. Medina earned his MFA at UCLA’s Department of World Arts & Cultures/Dance. Beforehand, Medina completed his B.A. in Dance and Movement Studies at Emory University as a QuestBridge Scholar. While there, he was a member of StaibDance Company until 2013. Medina is currently a company member of David Rousseve/REALITY, which recently toured Halfway to Dawn at several venues including Brooklyn Academy of Music – Harvey Theater, the Kelly Strayhorn Theater in Pittsburg, and Jacob’s Pillow summer festival 2019. Medina’s work explores themes of hypermasculinity, race, identity, and genre-bending. Medina teaches modern, hip-hop, and Dance History as a full- time faculty member at Emory University’s Dance Program.
