KUDOS TO THE FIREHALL ARTS CENTRE & DALANNAH GAIL BOWEN!

Congratulations to the Firehall Arts Centre as it celebrates its 25th Anniversary Season and the 100th anniversary of the building itself! That is 25 years of dance, theatre, music, festivals and gallery exhibitions in a converted firehall in the heart of the city! Known for its support of Canadian work and its multicultural and mentoring initiatives, the Firehall Arts Centre has been a cornerstone to the Vancouver arts scene and to the development of a thriving arts community in the Downtown Eastside. Artistic Producer Donna Spencer is an inspiration with her continued commitment to present exciting and provocative theatre season after season. The Festival also congratulates DTES community member Dalannah Gail Bowen on the premiere of her original show The Returning Journey, a performance that combines poetry and song to share her journey through abuse, addiction, homelessness, illness and return. A consummate vocalist, Dalannah started her acting career in the groundbreaking In the Heart of A City: The DTES Community Play (Carnegie Community Centre and Vancouver Moving Theatre, 2003) and in 2006 was a cast member of Urinetown, the award winning Firehall production.
