Burton K. Yuen LEED AP BD+C ASSOCIATE, LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

Detail oriented and highly organized, Burton Yuen is a crucial member of Weber Thompson’s landscape architecture design studio. With over 25 years of experience in Idaho and Seattle, he’s worked on a wide variety of project types ranging from affordable housing to office campuses for technology clients. For Burton, having a big picture view of each project is vital. “The more you know, the more useful you are,” says Burton. He loves working at a multi- disciplinary firm because it creates efficiencies that can’t be found in smaller firms. If he needs to know the current dimensions of a roof deck he’s designing, he can just walk right over to the person working on the building design and ask them. This ultimately saves time and speeds up the design process, and results Elan Uptown Flats in better designs because the whole team has a shared vocabulary and can be on the same page, at the same time. When not selecting shade-tolerant ground cover or detailing planter designs, Burton can be found at home with his wife and four children. He also loves to cook and design sets for theatrical productions.

Ken Gifford ASLA LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

A self-proclaimed “Lego Kid,’ Ken is in the business of solving problems. He originally pursued an education in construction management but quickly became intrigued by the graphic nature of the design process. After receiving a bachelor degree in Landscape Architecture from the State University of New York’s College of Environmental Science and Forestry, Ken went on to work for a number of Landscape Architecture firms in both New York and California. Ken’s formative experiences before joining Weber Thompson were in private residential work, particularly design-build. These

Othello Square Master Plan immersive projects allowed him to sink his teeth into all phases of design – from early design and client interaction to securing permits and administering construction. Ken is originally from New York, but he moved to Seattle to be closer to his family. He adores the Pacific Northwest’s mild climate and proximity to mountains; he loves both running and skiing. In addition to living an active lifestyle, Ken loves making things. His most notable projects include an 80-foot diameter labyrinth with bluestone from his cousin’s quarry and a wood framed barn on a farm in the Thousand Islands.

Shoshanah Haberman LANDSCAPE DESIGNER

After starting her career as a Middle East Analyst for the Department of Defense, Shoshanah sought a field where she could explore her creativity and connect with the outdoors. Landscape Architecture was an obvious answer for her, and she hasn’t looked back since. After gaining years of experience working hands on with residential clients in Seattle, Shoshanah joined the Weber Thompson Landscape Architecture studio in the spring of 2019. At WT she is able to dive back into the kind of projects from which her passion for landscape architecture grew – Lakeview Student Housing solving design challenges that come with tight, difficult urban spaces. She is dedicated to finding durable and sustainable solutions to these problems and seeks inspiration everywhere, especially outdoors. She sees something new to look at every day as landscapes change with the seasons and planting combinations develop together over time. Her passion for landscape architecture even led her to design a prototype for a patented modular urban gardening system. When she’s not solving urban landscape challenges, Shoshanah attends synagogue with her family, and tries to find time to run, hike, and of course,
