THURSDAY, 26 AUGUST 2021 PREMIER SALE ENDS ONE-MEETING PER DAY UK JOCKEY PROTOCOL TO CONTINUE THROUGH 2022 ON A HIGH The one-meeting per day protocol for jockeys will continue through 2022, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) and the Professional Jockeys Association (PJA) confirmed on Wednesday. Initially introduced as part of measures designed to ensure racing=s safe return behind closed doors during the COVID-19 pandemic, the protocol has been extended after consultation with jockeys and other stakeholders. The move was approved by the BHA board and applies to jockeys under both codes to ride at only one meeting per day. Goffs UK Managing Director Tim Kent was understandably delighted with the level of trade. "The Premier Sale is back on track,@ he said. The average was up 20% year-on-year at ,40,902, while the median rose 19% to ,32,000 $ Though the catalogue was 8.5% smaller than last year, the aggregate was up 18% at ,13,334,000 $ The top 10 lots on day two of the sale were sired by 10 different stallions $ Harry Angel (Ire) and Havana Grey (GB) were the only first- season sires to produce six-figure lots at the sale. Harry Angel was the sale=s leading first-crop sire, with five sold for an average of ,92,000 $ Peter & Ross Doyle were the leading purchasers at the sale with 16 bought for ,1,032,000 $ Ten different buyers signed for the top 10 lots over the two- day sale, which were sold by 10 different vendors $ Tally-Ho Stud was leading vendor with 20 sold for ,1,188,000. There has been a real buzz around the sales complex over the last few days and it=s great that this has resulted in trade which started well yesterday, finished strong last night, and kicked on again today. The fact that the 13 six-figure yearlings were purchased by 11 different buyers demonstrates the diversity of the buying bench associated with this sale whilst our policy of going >back to the future= when selecting the traditional >Donny yearling= has clearly proved popular with buyers. AWe=ve said this before but it is never more relevant than today; we simply cannot do this without our clients.
