Villeneuve named to CIS all-rookie team

• CALGARY Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues forward Katryne Villeneuve was named to the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women’s hockey all-rookie team on Wednesday night.

Villeneuve, a native of Casselman, Ont., was chosen as the Atlantic University Sport conference rookie of the year and was also a member of AUS all-rookie and first all-star teams.

She ended the regular season in third spot in the AUS scoring race with 14 goals and 24 points in 24 games.

The seventh-seeded Aigles Bleues play the second-seeded in a quarter-final at the CIS championship tournament on Friday in Calgary.

The No. 4 St. Francis Xavier X-Women face the fifth-seeded in a quarter-final on Thursday. The St. FX lineup includes forwards Sarah Johnson of Moncton, Sarah Bujold of Riverview and Schyler Campbell of Galloway, near

Rexton, and goalie Pascale Daigle of Irishtown.

Dieppe’s Katherine Richard is a forward with the No. 6 Montreal Carabins, who play the third-seeded Alberta Pandas in a quarter-final on Friday.

Riverview native , a defenceman with the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds, was selected a CIS men’s hockey first-team all- Canadian on Wednesday night. Murray finished third in scoring among AUS defencemen with 23 points, including eight goals, in 26 regular-season games.

No. 2 UNB takes on the seventh-seeded in a CIS men’s hockey championship tournament quarter-final on Thursday night in Halifax.

Campbellton native Christopher Caissy is a forward with the Varsity Reds.

Goaltender Robert Steeves, a native of Moncton, plays for the Acadia Axemen.

Defenceman Trey Lewis of Aldouace suits up for the host St. FX X-Men.

Other quarter-final games have the No. 3 Guelph Gryphons playing the No. 6 on Thursday and No. 5 Acadia meeting the No. 4 Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes and No. 8 St. FX battling the top-seeded Alberta Golden Bears on Friday.
