    Canadian Comic Books at Library and Archives Canada1 Meaghan Scanlon Abstract Library and Archives Canada (LAC) has what is likely the largest collection of Canadian comic books in a Canadian library. LAC’s collection has three distinct parts: comics acquired via legal deposit, the John Bell Collection of Canadian Comic Books, and the Bell Features Collection. These holdings, which span the history of the comics medium in Canada, represent a significant resource for researchers studying Canadian comics. This article looks at each of the three main parts of LAC’s comic book collection, giving an overview of the contents of each part, and providing information on how researchers can discover and access these comics. The article also briefly explores other comics-related holdings at LAC. Its purpose is to provide a starting point for researchers seeking to make use of LAC’s comic book collections. Words + Pictures: A Manifesto Abstract In the second decade of the 21st century, academic comics studies is well established as a serious intellectual subject, but for many non-specialists, including university administrators, a sense of frivolity still attaches to comics. This brief essay braids together personal history and intellectual analysis: 1) it compares the cultural position of comics today to the position of novels in the 19th century; 2) it analyzes the complementary nature of the verbal and visual channels; 3) it argues that neither words nor pictures should be considered primary in a narratology of comics; and 4) that comics are eminently well suited to be studied as a branch of literature (though fine arts departments can also stake a claim).

He declares his research has determined that Mary, mother of Jesuswas a prostitute, that early Christians practised prostitution, and that Jesus' Parable of the Talents should be read in a pro-prostitution light. Brown describes himself as a Christian who is "not at all concerned with imposing 'moral' values or religious laws on Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus and believes that Biblical figures such as Abel and Job "find favour with God because they oppose his will or challenge him in some way". Brown lays out the simple, precise artwork in a fixed grid of four panels to a page. The dialogue is plain and direct. The cover features a vagina- shaped frame into which Brown incorporates two smiling snakes and an open book, from which red drops fall. In the book's appendices, Brown puts forth his Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus of the stories. He argues that prostitution had an honorable place in Biblical society, and that Matthew left clues in his narrative Mary Wept Over the Feet of Jesus Mary was a prostitute. Brown details facts from his research that coloured his interpretations, such as that feet was used as a euphemism for "penis".

By Donald Sedgwick September, 2012 The proliferation of ebooks and ebook readers is causing a digital disruption in the publishing industry as consumers alter their reading and purchasing behaviours. This research paper attempts to determine if those same consumers are being fairly served by the current pricing practices for ebooks. It also looks at the “invisible hand” of economist Adam Smith to see if there are sufficient checks and balances to create a fair and competitive environment for consumers.
