OptixEQ 20201 Kentucky Derby Preps R8 - SHAM STAKES SA Race 8 - Sham Stakes ANALYSIS: An early Kentucky Derby prep race starts in the new year with the G3 Sham Stakes with just a compact field to contest this graded stakes race for newly turned three-year-old colts. As with most races concerning lightly raced types will have to keep that in mind even with the “Green” PlotFit and with limited Surface/Distance data. #5 LIFE IS GOOD stands out on Standard as a Square alone in Quad I. He earned a strong 96 Op<xFIG, a number well above today’s FigRANGE and B+ Op<xGRADE to match. He does hold the EASY_LEAD and LONE both Red Keywords though also paired with the NO_PUSH as the Extended Note reads “paid workout” for that debut win. Distance wise he looks capable to get the mile distance required this aHernoon and will be watching how he performs here going into this year. Stablemate/Baffert trainee #1 MEDINA SPIRIT earned the second highest Op<xFIG in the field recording a 90 OpOxFIG for his maiden win just three weeks ago at Los Alamitos. A contrast in terms of Op<xGRADES from LIFE IS GOOD with MEDINA SPIRIT earning a B Op<xGRADE along with the Extended Note that suggests there might not be much upside off that December 11th effort. #3 PARNELLI, the other Square on the Plot and has some advantage with the Surface/Distance experience. While that could carry this aHernoon, he has not shown much progression (Op<xFIG) in his races to date and would require him to run faster should LIFE IS GOOD pair up his debut effort this aHernoon. Trip also has to be considered as PARNELLI tends to race forwardly placed (Quad I/ III) and will have to put himself in the race and likely take pressure with LIFE IS GOOD in the field. That potenOal pace scenario could assist #2 WASPIRANT, the stablemate to PARNELLI going out for John Shirreffs. WASPIRANT has Op<xFIG on the lower end of RANGE, and from that perspecOve needs major improvement to compete this aHernoon. He has been off the last three months (98- day layoff) coming into this race and possible as a younger horse to develop during that period of Ome. While that Op<xFIG improvement will be imperaOve, he does hold experience at the route distance and graded stakes level, and perhaps that pace scenario to assist for a share. #4 UNCLE BOOGIE looks below this aHernoon based on his overall form and returning to the graded stakes level aHer the DROP? Projecon last out in the G3 Bob Hope Stakes. He has some run, though this level looks beyond his abiliOes and have to also consider the declining Op<xFIG as well. 2020 ©EquiLytix, LLC All rights reserved.
