It begins by summarizing the history and literary works of the Gottschee Germans, and secondly it deals with the historical novel Rebellion in der Gottschee by Karl Rom. Te novel was published in 1938 in German. It focuses on the great peasant revolt in Slovenia (Carniola) that took place in 1515. Te revolt was organized by the inhabitants of the Gottschee area against the violent landlord and was soon supressed. Based on image studies (imagology), the paper analyses the portrayal of the Slovenes and Gottschee Germans and discusses how Slavs (Slovenes) and Germans (Gottschee Germans) are represented in the novel. Introduction The territory of the Republic of Slovenia has always been ethnically diverse. Besides the Slovenians, Italians, Hungarians, Serbs, Croats, Jews and Roma, it was also home for almost thousand years to a German minority that was strong in number, but that is nowadays present only in fragments in the Kočevska and Styria regions. The reasons for the migrations of Germans away from the territory of Slovenia were primarily of a political and economic nature. Pre-war migrations of Germans out of the Slovenian territory occurred in parallel with the migrations of Slovenians in times of economic crises. Political migrations of Germans started after the collapse of the Austro- Hungarian monarchy when, due to the systematic pressure exercised by the government authorities on the German population, the German officialdom was leaving Slovenia massively. Political migrations of Germans broke out in the autumn of 1941 and the winter of 1942 when the majority of Germans from Kočevje and Ljubljana regions opted for the German Reich. In May 1945, after the end of the 2nd World War, there was a mass deportation of Germans who had not already managed to flee across the border, namely to Austria.

Many have become active in helping the club in one way or another and this is appreciated. To all of you who enjoy seeing new sights and doing a bit of traveling. We are considering two overnight trips during 2012. One is to the Thousand Islands in August and the other to Longwood Gardens and Philadelphia’s European Christmas Market in December. You will find more information later in this newsletter. Also, if there are any destinations that you would like us to consider for future trips please let Walter/Doris or Richard/Hildegard know. Although we have been fortunate to maintain our chorus, we have also lost far too many due to illness or failing voices. We rehearse during the months of September through May with January off. MOJCA KREN Osrednja razprava 20. redne seje občinskega sveta 18. julija Prva lopata za kanalizacijo na Selih 4 se je odvijala pri peti točki, idejni zasnovi obvozne ceste jedra Dolenjskih Toplic, t. i. razbre-menilne ceste. Zasnovana je v Topliška noč 6 treh fazah, prva – preboj Roška-Pionirska cesta – pa se delno že odvija. Izjemni Klemen Hrovat 13 Dušan Granda iz podjetja Topos je pojasnil, da je bistvo razbremenilne ceste umakniti del prometa iz središča kraja. Cesto, ki bi v bližini parkirišča Balnea z viaduktom prečkala Sušico in se pri Julij je bil v Dolenjskih Toplicah že tradicionalno zelo pester, saj sedanjem križišču ceste Dolenjske Topli- občina sporoča se je odvijalo veliko prireditev. Mnoge so zabeležene v tokratni ce-Meniška vas in ceste za Dolenje Polje številki Vrelca, osrednje mesto pa je namenjeno praznovanju ob- priključila na novozgrajeno krožišče, se činskega praznika, ki so ga tudi letos zaznamovali različni dogodki. nekoliko odmaknila od šole (del bo sicer Pestro bo tudi avgusta, še posebej za šolarje, ki se bodo skupaj s še vedno potekal po obstoječi Pionirski starši pripravljali na novo šolsko leto, ki se, čeprav se zdi, da se je cesti) ter nato s t. i. prebojem s Pionirske prejšnje komajda končalo, nezadržno približuje.
