The phylogeny, taxonomy and classification of Cryptodiscus are examined. The current generic and species delimitations, and the relationship of the genus within the Ostropomycetidae, are tested by molecular phylogenetic analyses of the nuclear ITS and LSU rDNA and the mitochondrial SSU rDNA. In our new circumscription Cryptodiscus is a monophyletic group of saprotrophic and lichenized fungi characterized by small, urceolate apothecia, mostly hyaline ascomatal walls without any embedded crystals, no clear periphysoids, and with oblong to narrow- cylindrical septate ascospores. Cryptodiscus forms a well-supported clade together with Absconditella and the remaining Stictidaceae. Paschelkiella and Bryophagus are synonymised with Cryptodiscus. Species excluded from Cryptodiscus are Cryptodiscus anguillosporus, C. angulosus, C. microstomus, and C. rhopaloides. Cryptodiscus in Sweden is revised and six species are accepted, of which one is newly described: C. foveolaris, C. gloeocapsa comb. nov. (≡ Bryophagus gloeocapsa), C. incolor sp. nov., C. pallidus, C. pini comb. nov. (≡ Paschelkiella pini), and the rediscovered species C. tabularum. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of rDNA was performed for seven Caloplaca, seven Xanthoria, one Fulgensia and five outgroup species. Phylogenetic hypotheses are constructed based on nuclear small and large subunit rDNA, separately and in combination. Three strongly supported major monophyletic groups were revealed within the Teloschistaceae. One group represents the Xanthoria fallax-group. The second group includes three subgroups: (1) X. parietina and X. elegans; (2) basal placodioid Caloplaca species followed by speciations leading to X. polycarpa and X. candelaria; and (3) a mixture of placodioid and endolithic Caloplaca species. The third main monophyletic group represents a heterogeneous assemblage of Caloplaca and Fulgensia species with a drastically different metabolite content. We report here that the two genera Caloplaca and Xanthoria, as well as the subgenus Gasparrinia, are all polyphyletic. The taxonomic significance of thallus morphology in Teloschistaceae and the current delimitation of the genus Xanthoria is discussed in light of these results. We specifically modelled spatial (across-site) heterogeneity in nucleotide frequencies, as models not incorporating this heterogeneity were found to be inadequate for our data. Model adequacy was measured here as the ability of the model to reconstruct nucleotide diversity per site in the original sequence data. A potential non-orthologue in the internal transcribed spacer region (ITS) of Degelia plumbea was observed. We propose a revised generic classification for the Pannariaceae, accepting 30 genera, based on our phylogeny, previously published phylogenies, as well as morphological and chemical data available. -

Massal. was revised by Egea & Torrente (1993) and represented by 20 species and one variety, among them four were previously reported from India Bactrospora jenikii (Vìzda) Egea & Torrente, B. lamprospora (Nyl.) Lendemer, B. metabola (Nyl.) Egea & Torrente, B. myriadea (Fée) Egea & Torrente (Singh & Sinha 2010). The genus Bactrospora differs from similar genera Lecanactis and Opegrapha by lecideine ascomata, dark proper exciple and elongate, transversely septate, fragmenting ascospores (Ponzetti & McCune 2006). The allopatric genus Sigridea was monographed by Tehler (1993) with four species world- wide. In India Nylander (1867) recorded single species of Sigridea as Platygrapha galucomoides Nyl. which is now known as Sigridea glaucomoides (Nyl.) Tehler. Sigridea species are recognized by white thallus, circular ascomata, well developed thalline margin, hyaline, 3-septate, curved ascospores with one end tapering and the presence of psoromic acid. -

It is included provisionally in Lecanora s. lat as characters such as Lecanora-type ascus, exciple composed of thick radiating hyphae and the usual presence of algal cells in the excipulum or its lichenicolous habitus on Lasallia pustulata, do not fit well within any known genus of lichenicolous or lichenized fungi. Its taxonomic affinities with several taxa are discussed, including the parasitic Lecanora gyrophorina.
