Park City, UT — Rounding out an already robust slate of new independent work, Sundance Institute adds two Documentary Premieres and two archive From The Collection films to the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. Screenings take place in Park City, Salt Lake City and at Sundance Mountain Resort January 19-29. Documentary Premieres Bending the Arc and Long Strange Trip join archive films Desert Hearts and Reservoir Dogs, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 1986 and 1992, respectively. The archive films are selections from the Sundance Institute Collection at UCLA, a joint venture between UCLA Film & Television Archive and Sundance Institute. The Collection, established in 1997, has grown to over 4,000 holdings representing nearly 2,300 titles, and is specifically devoted to the preservation of independent documentaries, narratives and short films supported by Sundance Institute, including Paris is Burning, El Mariachi, Winter’s Bone, Johnny Suede, Working Girls, Crumb, Groove, Better This World, The Oath and Paris, Texas. Titles are generously donated by individual filmmakers, distributors and studios. With these additions, the 2017 Festival will present 118 feature-length films, representing 32 countries and 37 first-time filmmakers, including 20 in competition. An analysis of television's The L Word from the demonstrates that even though the series deconstructs the perspectives of gender and sexuality normative boundaries of both gender and sexuality, it can also be said to maintain the ideals of a heteronormative society. Es ist nur so, dass das Mainstream-Kino den Kaperversuch durch die Kunst ziemlich fundamental abgeschlagen hat. Jetzt den Filmen von David Lynch noch einmal wieder zu begegnen, ist ein Glücksfall. Danach muss man sich zum Fernsehapparat oder ins Museum bemühen. (Und grimmig die Propaganda des Künstlers für den Unfug transzendentaler Meditation herunterschlucken; »nobody is perfect.«) Was also ist das Besondere an David Lynch? Seine Arbeit geschah und geschieht nach den »Spielregeln der Kunst«, die bekanntlich in ihrer eigenen Schöpfung und zugleich in ihrem eigenen Bruch bestehen. The $10,000 Award will be presented in November 2018, to coincide with the 104th anniversary of Hedy Lamarr's birth. Austrian-American actress Hedy Lamarr was a Hollywood legend who is best known for her roles in a number of film classics including, Samson and Delilah, The Strange Woman, and Tortilla Flat. She was also a lifelong inventor whose innovative work included pioneering "frequency hopping" which became the foundation for spread spectrum technology. Conceived by Lamarr and composer George Antheil for radio guidance systems and patented in 1942, this highly secure technology resists interference and dropout, and is utilized today for a variety of cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth applications. To honor Ms. Lamarr, the scholarship seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated students to pursue opportunities available to them in entertainment technology, be those pursuits academic or professional. The award winner will receive $10,000 as they enter their senior year of undergraduate study. While there are no specific restrictions on the use of this monetary award, we hope and expect that the funds will be used to further the winner’s study or efforts in their recognized area of excellence. [1914- 2000] Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesler, conocida como Hedy Lamarr ( Viena, Austria 9 de noviembre de 1914 - Casselberry , Florida , E.E.U.U. 19 de enero de 2000), fue una actriz de cine e inventora Austriaca . El Día del Inventor en Austria se celebra el 9 de noviembre en su honor. Fue inventora de la primera versi ó n del “Espectro Ensanchado” que permitiría las “Comunicaciones Inalámbricas” de larga distancia. Después de una breve carrera cinematográfica en la República de Checoslovaquia, huyó y se trasladó en secreto a Paris en Francia, y luego se trasladó a Londres, en el País del Reino Unido. Trayectoria Científica. Al comienzo de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, Hedy Lamarr, y el compositor George Antheil desarrollaron la patente del “Sistema de Guía por Radio” para torpedos aliados y aplicaban el concepto de “Espectro Ensanchado” y la tecnología de “Salto de Frecuencia” para vencer la amenaza de interferencias por parte de las “Potencias del Eje” Aunque la “Armada de los Estados Unidos de Norteamérica” no adoptó la tecnología hasta la década de 1960, los principios de su “Trabajo de Investigación” se incorporan a la tecnología “Bluetooth” y son similares a los métodos aplicados en las versiones heredadas de “Wi-Fi”. Even her name - Hedy Lamarr - sounded dark and mysterious. But although she shared the screen with Hollywood legends like Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy and Jimmy Stewart, people rarely remember Hedy's talent.
