V Horním Benešově dne …………………… ………………………………… Adam Kamír ANOTACE Předmětem diplomové práce je mediální reprezentace teen postav, přičemž její pozornost bude konkrétně zaměřena na mediální reprezentaci vybraných teen postav v seriálech Skam a Skins. Cílem práce je zjistit a popsat to, jakým způsobem jsou hlavní postavy v uvedených seriálech zobrazovány, a to se zřetelem na to, s jakými genderovými či etnickými stereotypy jsou spojovány. První část diplomové práce je zaměřena na popis teoretických východisek výzkumu. Druhá část se pak věnuje metodologickému popisu, který směřuje k sekci poslední, a to samotnému zpracování analýzy postav, a to pomocí sémioticko-strukturální analýzy dle modelu navrženém Danielem Chandlerem. ANOTATION The main subject of the thesis is the media representation of teen characters which focus on the media representation of selected teen characters in the series Skam and Skins. The aim of this work is to find out and describe how are the main characters portrayed in the series, with regard to what gender or ethnic stereotypes they are associated with. The first part of the thesis is focusing on the description of the theoretical basis of the research. The second part of the thesis is devoted to methodological description which is leading to to the analysis of characters, using semiotic-structural analysis inspired by the model designed by Daniel Chandler.     The Many Deaths of Captain Cook A Study in Metropolitan Mass Culture, 1780-1810 Ruth Scobie PhD University of York Department of English April 2013 i Ruth Scobie The Many Deaths of Captain Cook Abstract This thesis traces metropolitan representations, between 1780 and 1810, of the violent death of Captain James Cook at Kealakekua Bay in Hawaii. It takes an interdisciplinary approach to these representations, in order to show how the interlinked texts of a nascent commercial culture initiated the creation of a colonial character, identified by Epeli Hau’ofa as the looming “ghost of Captain Cook.” The introduction sets out the circumstances of Cook’s death and existing metropolitan reputation in 1779. It situates the figure of Cook within contemporary mechanisms of ‘celebrity,’ related to notions of mass metropolitan culture. It argues that previous accounts of Cook’s fame have tended to overemphasise the immediacy and unanimity with which the dead Cook was adopted as an imperialist hero; with the result that the role of the scene within colonialist histories can appear inevitable, even natural. In response, I show that a contested mythology around Cook’s death was gradually constructed over the three decades after the incident took place, and was the contingent product of a range of texts, places, events, and individuals. The first section examines responses to the news of Cook’s death in January 1780, focusing on the way that the story was mediated by, first, its status as ‘news,’ created by newspapers; and second, the effects on Londoners of the Gordon riots in June of the same year.

Creation of an extensible, detector-independent toolkit (RAVE) for vertex reconstruction, to be embedded into various environments: • RAVE = “Reconstruction (of vertices) in abstract versatile environments”; • The toolkit includes both vertex finding (a pattern recognition task a.k.a. track bundling) and vertex fitting (estimation of the vertex parameters and errors); • Synergy used: starting point was the old CMS software (ORCA) which has recently been refactored and ported to the new CMS framework (CMSSW); • Principal algorithmic assets are robustified reconstruction methods with estimators based on adaptive filters, thus downweighting the influence of outlier tracks; • RAVE is foreseen to stay source-code compatible with CMSSW, but thanks to its generic API may easily be embedded into other software environments. 2.     RAILWAY EMPLOYEE RECORDS FOR COLORADO VOLUME III By Gerald E. Sherard (2005) When Denver’s Union Station opened in 1881, it saw 88 trains a day during its gold-rush peak. When passenger trains were a popular way to travel, Union Station regularly saw sixty to eighty daily arrivals and departures and as many as a million passengers a year. Many freight trains also passed through the area. In the early 1900s, there were 2.25 million railroad workers in America. After World War II the popularity and frequency of train travel began to wane. The first railroad line to be completed in Colorado was in 1871 and was the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad line between Denver and Colorado Springs. A question we often hear is: “My father used to work for the railroad. How can I get information on Him?” Most railroad historical societies have no records on employees. Most employment records are owned today by the surviving railroad companies and the Railroad Retirement Board. For example, most such records for the Union Pacific Railroad are in storage in Hutchinson, Kansas salt mines, off limits to all but the lawyers. The Union Pacific currently declines to help with former employee genealogy requests. However, if you are looking for railroad employee records for early Colorado railroads, you may have some success. The Colorado Railroad Museum Library currently has 11,368 employee personnel records. These Colorado employee records are primarily for the following railroads which are not longer operating. Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad (AT&SF) Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad employee records of employment are recorded in a bound ledger book (record number 736) and box numbers 766 and 1287 for the years 1883 through 1939 for the joint line from Denver to Pueblo.

    DELAGE CLUB OF AUSTRALIA (Inc) December 2014 Assn A0022114G Adieu Gerald (Dooly) Baker - bon vivant On 30 September, St Peter’s Catholic Church in Toorak was overcrowded with a sad but appreciative throng celebrating the life of Dooly Baker on what would have been his 72nd birthday. The eulogies by friends and colleagues covered Dooly’s childhood and education, his successful and varied business career, and a very active social life centred on love, family, friends, and the diverse groups with whom he shared interests, food, wine and good times. Dooly’s daughters Alex, Philippa and Kate broadened the picture with details of his great interest and skill in Ianguages, literature and the arts. Alex explained that Dooly surprised her Di-Lorenzo parents-in- law with a speech in Sicilian. Kate, who shares her father’s interests in many of these fields and in particular in matters Gallic, described how in recent years Dooly embraced a new French mistress – the lovely CO Delage, a pleasure generally shared with Angie. In recognition of this passion, those attending included a significant number of Delage and Vintage members. The Perns came in the DE tourer, and I gave the D6/70s an outing. Walking out of the church, I encountered a smiling Mark Burns rejoicing in the fact that he survived his second visit to a Catholic place of worship without the ghost of Calvin striking him speechless or some worse fate. Perhaps the spirit of that other Celt from across the Irish Sea – the reformed Ian Paisley - had played a role? Most of us adjourned to the Australia Club where Dooly had clearly made his mark as a member.
