DISTRICT EDUCATION OFFICE, GAJAPATI, PARALAKHEMUNDI District Education information details The District Education officer of Gajapati District is functioned from 12.04.2012 as per letter no.10161, Dated 19.04.2012 of School and Mass Education Department, Odisha. The office is inaugurated on 12.07.2012 at M.R. Boys Hih School Hostel building at Palace Street, Paralakhemundi, Gajapati. The building was inaugurated by the honourable MP Sri Siddhanta Mohapatra, Berhampur constituency and the local MLA, Sri K.Narayan Rao. District education officer, Sri Yukta Sadananda Parichha of Berhampur, Ganjam district has taken the charge of the office at first. Then Sri Prasant Kumar Mohapatra had taken the DEO charge with Sri Sanjee Kumar Singh as the additional education officer. For the development of education in the district there are five block education office are present in the district and one block education officer are appointed for each block education office. To support each block education officer, three additional BEO were appointed to look forward the every panchayat level educational institutions. For the development of Primary and Upper Primary school level education Sarva Sikhya Abhiyan (SSA) is running in this district. The school details of the district has been listed below. 1. Total Primary and Upper Primary School : 1187 2. Total High School : 165 i. Computer literacy provided school : 42 ii. Vocational education provided school : 07 iii. State independent school : 08 iv. Rashtriya Madhayamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) : 63 3. Odisha Adarsh Vidyalaya(OAVS) : 07 4. Total Teacher strength in Primary and Upper Primary school : 2165 5. Total Teacher strength of High School : 544 6. Total Student strength in Primary and Upper Primary school : 82000 7. Total Student strength in High School : 15000 8. 2017-18 academic year 10th class result status : 87.1 % 9. 2017-18 academic year distribution of cycles by honourable chief minister of odisha: 99 % 10. Mid Day School Meals as Social Safety Nets: An evaluation of the Impact of Iron Fortification of Mid Day Meals on the prevalence of Anemia among Children in Odisha, India Introduction: Mid Day Meal (MDM) scheme implemented by the Government of India is the largest school-feeding programme in the world designed to boost the enrolment in schools, and simultaneously address the problem of malnutrition among children. The programme provides cooked meal with a minimum of 450 and 700 calories, to all primary and upper primary stage children respectively in government and government-aided schools, and alternative education centers. Serving 120,000,000 children in over 1,265,000 schools, it is the largest such programme in the world. While the strongest impact of the MDM scheme is in increasing the enrollment, use of the scheme for nutritional impact, which is a great potential, is rarely attempted. Since India accounts for the largest number of anemic children in the world and level of anaemia among children increased from 74 percent in NFHS-2 (1998-99) to 79 percent in NFHS-3 (2005-06), therefore there is an urgent need to develop pathways for combating the nutritional deficiencies among children. Available literature suggests that fortification of school meals is the most efficient and effective route to alleviating micronutrient deficiencies among school-aged children. The state of Odisha, being one of the most nutritionally vulnerable state of India, has substantially high levels of both under-nutrition and anemia among the children. Odisha’s poor nutritional status has captured the attention of policy makers.

Socio economic PROFILE : GAJAPATI Introduction : Gajapati district has been named after Maharaja Sri Krushna Chandra Gajapati Narayan Dev, the Ex-Raja Saheb of Paralakhemundi estate ( the 1st Prime Minister of Odisha state ), who is remembered for his contribution in formation of a separate Odisha Province and inclusion of Paralakhemundi estate in Odisha. Gajapati district came into being with effect from 2nd October 1992. Prior to this it was a part ( Sub-division ) of Ganjam district. Location : Gajapati district is one of the Southern located districts in Odisha. It lies between 83o 48’ to 84o 27’ E longitude and between 18o 46’ N to 19o 39’ N latitude. It is bounded by the Kandhamal district in North, Srikakulam district of Andhra Pradesh in South, Ganjam district in the East, and Rayagada district in the West. Climate : The climate condition of the district is generally hot and high humidity during April to May and cold during December to January. The monsoon generally breaks during the month of June. Actual average annual rainfall of the district was 1293.2 m.m. during 2011, which is lower than the normal rainfall 1403.3 m.m. Area and Population : The district has an area of 4325 sq. kms. and 5.78 lakhs of population as per 2011 census. The district accounts for 2.78 percent of the states territory and shares 1.38 percent of the States population. The density population of the district is 134 sq. kms. As against 270 person per sq. km. of the state. It has 1619 villages ( including 107 un-inhabited villages ) covering 7 blocks, 7 Tahasils and 1 Subdivisions.
