Each year brings new challenges and exciting opportunities that we must be ready to face, both as an individual and as a profession. The game is ever-changing and it is our responsibility as coaches to adapt and adjust on the court and in the classroom. I want to thank all of the past TABC Presidents for their outstanding leadership and most recently to Jaime Boswell of Alice ISD for a job well done. Thank you to the UIL, Dr. Charles Breithaupt, Dr. Susan Elza, Brandy Belk, Joseph Garmon, and everyone else that had a hand in the new rule allowing coaches to do up to 2 hours of sport-specific skills with their student-athletes beginning this summer. This is a fantastic opportunity to build relationships and keep our student-athletes engaged throughout the summer. Now, it is my hope that we continue to grow this organization to be the best it can be and continue to be a student of the game. Get involved and help out by getting as many coaches as we can to join TABC or offer to serve on a committee. Do not hesitate to contact the TABC Staff, TABC Board, or Regional Coordinators with any and all suggestions and solutions. Be passionate in all that you do and have a blessed year! Yours in Basketball and TABC, Jason Sanders, TABC President, Lumberton High School TABC is happy to announce our fall membership drive which includes a discount for coaches who join between now and Octo- ber 15, 2019. TABC Roundball Roundup—Page 7 The annual TABC convention and clinic held May 16, 17 and 18 in San Antonio was another successful event even though it looked to be in big trouble from the beginning. Three weeks be- fore the clinic date, TABC received bad news from the El Tropicano Hotel that the Coronado Ballroom would not be available for our event. For 20 years the clinic has gradually been built around the Coronado Room as our two banquets and site for speakers have grown to the point where it held almost half of the clinic activities. The news left TABC scrambling for replacement venues without much time to recover. After much searching and shuffling we were able to find a home for all of our activities without much inconvenience to attendees. The Double Tree Hotel rearranged some of their events and hosted our two banquets. By moving some of our board and all of the Hall of Fame inductees rooms to the Double Tree we were able to avoid the ballroom rental fees and limit travel for most of the guests. We held our breath as some speakers were moved to smaller ballrooms and fortunately everything fit. We apologize to any who were inconvenienced by the unavoida- ble late changes in event sites. Now for the good news: All speakers were informative and well attended. The on court demonstrations and vendor show at St Mary's University enjoyed continued success as the TABC clinic remains the largest and best state hosted clinic in the nation. For the seventh con- secutive year (10th of the last 11 years), over 2,000 coaches were in attendance and more than 70 vendors showed their wares helping our coaches prepare their budgets for next season. Since the Coronado Ballroom, like the Municipal Auditorium, is now an important part of our history, but a thing of the past, TABC will be moving to a new host hotel for future clinics. The dates for next year are May 14, 15, 16, 2020 (the week after the state track meet) and the Sep- tember newsletter will announce our new clinic headquarters and how to make reserva- tions. We promise that the changes will be improvements as TABC continues to best serve its members. Scholarship Contributions The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches presently awards eighteen $500 scholarships to graduating seniors connected to basketball in the state of Tex- as. As more funds become available, the number and amounts of the scholar- ships will be increased. Many of you have players who have gone on to lucra- tive careers either as either professional athletes or as business leaders.

  • The Rev. Scott J. Brown Head of School, TMI Episcopal Presentation to 116Th Annual Council of the Diocese of West Texas (2019)
The Rev. Scott J. Brown Head of School, TMI Episcopal Presentation to 116th Annual Council of the Diocese of West Texas (2019) Good afternoon beautiful people! Let’s see who paid attention last year…. Raise your hand if you have a school associated with your congregation? WELL DONE! My name is Scott Brown and it’s my honor to update you on our Diocesan School, TMI Episcopal. It’s been exactly 125 years since Bishop James Steptoe Johnston founded TMI with 3 goals in mind: provide a great academic experience, while building character, in a Christ-centered community. I’m pleased to report that 125 years later, we’re still living Bishop Johnston’s dream. It is an exciting and WONDERFUL time to be a TMI Panther! Today we’re 465 students strong, 6-12 grade, on over 80 acres in NW San Antonio. Our core values are Wisdom, Integrity, Service, Excellence, Reverence. Our optional Corps of Cadets JROTC program remains our keepers of tradition, having just been named an Honor Unit with Distinction for the 25th consecutive year. Our soccer team plays tomorrow in the State Championship in Waco as they seek to win the title for the 2nd time in 3 years. Our 9:1 student to teacher ratio allows us to know every students’ name and help them develop THEIR full potential. Milestone anniversaries like ours are a great time for setting goals to ensure we continue to live our mission for at least another 125 years. During my first two years as Head of School, I’ve asked one question over and over and over again.

BE TRANSFORMED BY THE RENEWING OF YOUR MINDS 2017–2018 Annual Report CONTENTS Governing Board President’s Message 1 Executive Director’s Message 2 Mission & Purpose 3 Be Transformed by the Renewing of Your Minds 5 Episcopal Schools Celebration 2017-2018 Members & Associate Members 12 Corporate Subscribers 18 Support 19 Planned Giving: The Muhlenberg Society 26 Financials 27 Governing Board 29 Staff 30 GOVERNING BOARD PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE With the ever-increasing cacophony of technology and global communications bringing the world’s events and their array of competing interests ever so closer to the doorsteps of our Episcopal schools, I find myself wondering just how any of us, students especially, will continue to find space and time for useful contemplation, discerning just how our lives might be of use in support of the best in God’s plan. At the same time and by contrast, I am grateful for our shared work in association by which I am happily reminded of God’s everlasting grace and guiding presence. Buoyed by this strengthening spirit, may we become ever more courageous bearers of hope and peace in a world that hungers for it! Episcopal schools are intentional in their vocation to educate; that we may be of use and a welcome blessing to those around us. And it is both by recognizing the depth and worth of each individual and of our collective strength in community that we seek to provide this good work. NAES is made possible by your presence and offering within community; a wide variety of faithful individuals who, through their courage and depth of being, help our association further the important work we share.
