Twelve species were found at two sites below 100 m near Kwerba, a small village adjacent to the Mamberamo River. Thirteen species were recorded at 'Moss Camp' at 1650 m in the Foja Mountains. Of these Hemicordulia ericetorum was previously only known from the central mountain range while Oreaeschna dictatrix was only known from Lake Paniai and the Cyclops Mountains. It is likely that more genera and species now known onlyfrom the central mountain range occur in the Foja Mountains and probably also the Van Rees Mountains. However one species, Argiolestes spec. nov. is probably endemie to the Foja Mountains. Although this collection includes only a small fraction of the diversity likely to be present in the mountains it is nonetheless of interest as it represents the first records of dragonflies from the area. -

JOIDES Resolution Expedition 363 (Western Pacific Warm Pool) Site
IODP Expedition 363: Western Pacific Warm Pool Site U1484 Summary Background and Objectives International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Site U1484 (proposed Site WP-71A) is located ~15 km offshore the northern coast of Papua New Guinea at 3°07.93′S, 142°46.98′E, and 1031 m below sea level (mbsl). The site is situated on seismic reflection profile Line RR1313-WP7-2, ~900 m south of the cross-point with seismic reflection profile Line RR1313-WP7-5, and ~1.5 km east of the location of piston core RR1313 32PC. This ~7 m piston core and a companion gravity core from this site are characterized by a mixture of clay and volcanic sand containing relatively high numbers of planktonic and benthic foraminifers in an excellent state of preservation. Preliminary isotope analysis of planktonic foraminifers from the cores indicates >6 m of Holocene implying sedimentation rates of ~60 cm/ky. The multichannel seismic (MCS) survey shows >650 m sediment coverage at this site. The MCS profiles exhibit remarkable uniformity of acoustic stratification indicating a succession of alternating clay-, silt-, and sand- dominated sediment beds down to 0.28 s two-way traveltime (TWT) below the surface with estimated depth of 225 m below seafloor (mbsf), our target drilling depth. Below this depth, the MCS profiles suggest a disturbed zone. We note also a possible disturbed interval between 0.14 and 0.16 s TWT. Site U1484 is located in a tectonically complex region east of the Cyclops Mountains and west of the Sepik/Ramu river mouth. The region is bounded to the south by the Bewani-Torricelli fault zone on land, which links to offshore transform faults that eventually connect with seafloor spreading along the Bismarck Sea seismic lineation to the east (Baldwin et al., 2012). -

He is one of the leading floristicians in Papuasian botany and is widely known in professional circles for wide-ranging publications in vascular plant taxonomy and conservation. His 25-year career as a resident scientist in Papua New Guinea began in 1988 at the Wau Ecology Institute (subsequently transferring to the PNG National Herbarium in 1992) and included numerous affiliations as a research associate or consultant with academic institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and corporate entities. Despite taking early retirement at age 57, botanical work has continued to the present on a selective basis. He has served as the lead botanist on at least 38 multidisciplinary surveys and has 97 peer-reviewed publications on the Malesian flora. Kyle Armstrong, Specialised Zoological Pty. Ltd – Mammals Dr Kyle Armstrong is a consultant Zoologist, trading as ‘Specialised Zoological’, providing a variety of services related to bats, primarily on acoustic identification of bat species from echolocation call recordings, design and implementation of targeted surveys and long term monitoring programmes for bats of conservation significance, and the provision of management advice on bats. He is also currently Adjunct Lecturer at The University of Adelaide, an Honorary Research Associate of the South Australian Museum, and had four years as President of the Australasian Bat Society, Inc. -

Keywords: Delias, new species, Cyclops Mountains Introduction The Cyclops Mountains on the northeast coast of Papua Province, Indonesia are known to be a center of biodiversity and endemism although exploration has been limited due to the steep topography and absence of water sources at higher altitudes. Only four montane species of the genus Delias Hübner, 1819 have until now been recorded, all in small numbers; D. albertisi discoides Talbot, 1937, D. pulla pulla Talbot, 1937, D. kummeri Ribbe, 1900 and D. campbelli campbelli Joicey & Talbot, 1920. A further five species have been recorded from low altitudes around Jayapura and Sentani. Although the highest summit has an altitude of 2150 m, few of the Delias species that inhabit the lower montane zone (1000- •2000 m) elsewhere on the island of New Guinea have been recorded from the Cyclops Mts. -

BOPs are distributed from the Moluccan Islands east through New Guinea to Tagula Island and northeastern Australia. This analysis set out to develop a multidimensional view of conservation threats to BOP species, looking towards their conservation. For example, under future climatic conditions and considering loss of forest cover, Astrapia nigra may face extinction within just 2-4 decades. Generally, under future climatic conditions, BOP distributional areas decrease. Relatively few BOP species face distributional losses owing to sea level rise; however, land use change and future changed climatic conditions present more serious threats. I analyze distributional patterns and likely threats for each species and identify optimal suites of areas for BOP protection based on the results. INTRODUCTION The family Paradisaeidae (birds of paradise, or BOPs) comprises 42 species in 17 genera (Frith and Beehler 1998), although some debate exists regarding these numbers. -

Remarks on Stenus amor (West- Papua: Biak Island) are given and new faunistic data of Stenus agricola, Stenus balkei, Stenus hypostenoides, Stenus piliferus obesulus, Stenus prismalis, Stenus rorellus cursorius and Stenus sepikensis from West-Papua are provided. K e y w o r d s : West-Papua, new species, Cyclops Mountains, Foja Mountains, insect taxonomy Introduction New Guinea is the second largest island on Earth and, more importantly, a biodiversity hotspot (MITTERMEIER et al. 2003). About 150 species of the genus Stenus have been described from New Guinea (PUTHZ 2016), but this largely unexplored island most likely has many more undiscovered species. Amongst previously unidentified Stenus specimens from West-Papua, a new bluish species was found, which is described in this paper. Additionally, faunistic data of seven other Stenus species from West-Papua is provided. Material and methods Morphological studies were carried out using a stereoscopic microscope (Lomo MBS-10) and a compound microscope (Euromex BB.1153.PLI). -
