KATHOLIEKE UNIVERSITEIT LEUVEN Faculty of Arts Institute for Cultural Studies A MONUMENTAL PAST AN EXPLORATION OF THE RELATION BETWEEN THE ENDURING POPULARITY OF THE MENIN GATE AND THE COMMEMORATION OF WORLD WAR ONE IN BRITAIN Thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Cultural Studies Advisor by M. Bl eyen Myrthel Van Etterbeeck 2011-2012 ABSTRACT Wereldoorlog I gaf in Groot Brittannië aanleiding tot een groots herinneringsproject.
