She plans on pursuing a law degree upon graduation. She is a senator and Public Relations Chair in the Student Government Association, Chi Omega Recruitment Chair, WKU Organizational Aid Board Committee Chair, Economics Club Vice President and Alzheimer’s Walk Team Captain. Her platform has been that of advocate for Alzheimer’s Awareness and Research as inspired by her grandfather, Lucian Thornton. She will vie for the crown of Miss America on January 14th in Las Vegas, NV. Tyler Franklin / LPM About Us The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom founded in 2014 by Louisville Public Media, a 501(c)3 corporation that operates three public radio stations, including 89.3 WFPL News. KyCIR works with WFPL and other news partners across the region to produce and distribute original reporting in the public interest. Our journalism affects you, your neighborhood and your commonwealth. Our mission is to protect society’s most vulnerable citizens, expose wrongdoing in the public and private sectors, increase transparency in government and hold leaders accountable, all in accordance with journalism’s highest standards. Many newsrooms today are facing difficult choices. Some are shrinking staff and cutting back on investigative reporting, which takes significant time and resources. At KyCIR, we believe this in-depth reporting is critical. Our journalism shines a light on major problems in our city and state, sparks conversation and spurs solutions to the commonwealth’s woes. For decades, we’ve worked to deliver on that mission. But we haven’t always gotten it right. As a public media organization, LPM must strive to represent the community we serve in our staff, programming, community presence and governance. We reiterated that commitment earlier this year in our statement on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. We have made significant strides in diversifying our teams in recent years, but our culture has lagged in fully embracing new and different voices. Throughout our history, we have left out members of our community — from our staff, stories, music mixes and events. We have under-represented Black people and other people of color in what we do, on our staff and in our coverage -

Dr. Lester Pesterfield's summer attire is blue jean shorts and a tee shirt, not a bow tie and jacket. His youth and excitement give him an appearance and personal ity more closely resembling the students he teaches than that of the stereotypical chemistry professor. Pesterfield, in his fifth year at Western Kentucky University, may be relatively new to the Hilt but he has already made an impact upon his shtdents. The winner of the 1996 Univer sity Award for Excellence in Teaching says that he was very surprised to receive the award. ''I'm honored," he said. "I really didn't think, being an assistant professor, I had enough time or material to stack up with some of the people who had been here 15 to 20 years." Pesterfield says he judges his success by the way students relate to him outside class. -

WKU Board of Regents ACTION ITEM FB-1 2020-21 OPERATING BUDGET REQUEST: Approve the 20120-21 Operating Budget. FACTS: The WKU 2020-21 Budget is WKU’s financial plan for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2020 and ending June 30, 2021 – it includes both the Operating and Capital Budgets for WKU. The budget document includes the following components: . Narratives by area that summarize Strategic Plan priorities; . Revenue Summary; . Expenditure Summary by Organizational Area (Unrestricted, Auxiliary Enterprises and Restricted) and Program Classification Structure (PCS); . Expenditure Detail by unit (not included in the Summary Budget); . Capital Budget; and . Supplemental Information. The Operating Budget includes Educational and General (E&G) and Auxiliary Enterprises revenues and expenditures. E&G revenue consists of unrestricted revenue (primarily state appropriation and tuition and fees) and restricted revenue (e.g., federal and state funds for student financial aid and for grants and contracts). Unrestricted funds are resources that are to be utilized at the discretion of the university. Restricted funds are separately identified resources for which external donors or agencies place limitations on how the funds may be used. Auxiliary Enterprises revenue is from the self-supporting activities of WKU such as housing (reimbursed costs from the Student Life Foundation), WKU Restaurant Group, and student fees supporting Downing Student Union operating and debt costs. The Capital Budget provides a listing of major capital and lease/purchase projects, funding sources, and the current status of these projects. The General Assembly authorizes a maximum funding for each project for a biennium. However, depending on funding available, some projects may be completed at less than the authorized amount. -

As the only university joint licensee (WKU PBS and WKU Public Radio) in the Commonwealth, we proudly serve through our television broadcast signal, radio broadcast signals, satellite transmissions and digital content. Our base of operations is in the heart of WKU's campus in Bowling Green. WKU Public Broadcasting provides public service broadcasting to the community, professional training for students and creates and distributes media content that serves WKU and the citizens of Kentucky.
