  • Hall of Fame Is Nothing New for Eric Clapton. One of the Greatest
PERFORMERS GETTING INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL Hall of Fame is nothing new for Eric Clapton. One of the greatest guitarists of our time, a musician whose achingly honest, often brilliant blues-laden solos continue to explore the eternal conflict between passion and pain, Clapton has been honored previously for his work with seminal blues-rock band the Yardbirds (inducted in 1992) and psychedelic-tinted supergroup Cream (inducted in 1993). We focus our attention this time on Clapton’s sterling solo career, one that spans three decades and is still M © A going strong. Remarkably, his induction tonight makes Clapton the only artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame three times. If ever an artist so deserved such unprecedented recognition, it is Eric Clapton. Throughout his career, occasionally amid wrenching personal problems, Clapton has defined class, both in the studio and on the stage. The guitar genius was always there, but over the years Clapton devel oped both his singing and songwriting skills to such a degree that they became perfect complements to his extraordinary musicianship. A bluesmaster, Clapton has never been bound by the genre. Instead, he has used the music’s emotional intensity as a base while he delved into straight-ahead rock and even pop. What he discovered was that tri umphant artistic expression could occur in any music form, provid ing the artist remained true to his muse and his heart. He was born Eric Clapp on March 30,1945, in Ripley, England, where he was raised by his grandparents.

In addition, the following pages provide significant food for thought, both for beginning instructors and for those who are quite experienced in teaching such a course. The following pages provide much more than a simple synopsis of the textbook content, though that forms an important component of the material. Rather, the Instructor Manual contains many innovative ideas to stimulate students – both inside and outside the classroom – and to help them develop an intimate understanding of the genre of music that, arguably, has had the greatest musical, cultural, and sociological impact during the twentieth and twenty- first century. With the exception of the Introduction, which provides a general set of teaching tips and suggests a means of structuring the course content, each chapter of the present text is subdivided into a consistent set of sections. The chapter overview provides a detailed outline of the content of each chapter, highlighting some of the most significant points addressed and, at times, providing supplemental information that will be of interest to students and instructors.

Andy Fairweather Low & The Lowriders Zone-O-Tone Proper/Rough Trade-Tone Fairweather Low came to prominence in the late Sixties as the lead vocalist with Amen Corner and scored several hits, including the number 1 “(If Paradise Is) Half As Nice”. He went on to enjoy a successful solo career, and enjoyed another huge hit with “Wide Eyed And Legless”. But his solo career was put on hold as he became increasingly popular as a sideman and soon became known as the “ultimate guitarist to the stars”, building an extraordinary reputation that has endured to this day as he’s played a crucial role working with the likes of Eric Clapton, The Who, George Harrison, Roger Waters, Bill Wyman and many more. Fortunately for us, Andy has somehow found time to make a brand new record of his own. Zone-O-Tone features twelve new songs which draw heavily on his diverse musical influences. The musicians featured on this terrific project are also touring with him from October and are a who’s who of the best players on the rock scene. Joining Andy is Paul Beavis on drums (Thea Gilmore, Robbie Macintosh & Sunday All Over The World), Nick Pentelow on saxes and clarinet (Roy Wood, Roger Chapman and Gary Moore) and long standing associate Dave Bronze on bass (Clapton, Concert For George, Dear Mr Fantasy tribute to Jim Capaldi). When Andy Fairweather Low released ‘Sweet Soulful Music’ on Monday 14th August 2006 it was his first solo album in 26 years. Yet this is no simple ‘comeback’ story – those intervening years have been packed with people and projects virtually amounting to a stellar A to Z of Popular Music.

Clapton is the only three-time inductee to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once as a solo artist, and separately as a member of The Yardbirds and Cream. Clapton has been referred to as one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time.[3] Clapton ranked fourth in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time"[4] and fourth in Gibson's Top 50 Guitarists of All Time.[5] In the mid sixties, Clapton left the Yardbirds to play blues with John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers. In his one-year stay with Mayall, Clapton gained the nickname "Slowhand", and graffiti in London declared "Clapton is God." Immediately after leaving Mayall, Clapton formed with drummer Ginger Baker and bassist Jack Bruce, the power trio, Cream, in which Clapton played sustained blues improvisations and "arty, blues-based psychedelic pop." For most of the seventies, Clapton's output bore the influence of the mellow style of J.J.
