Sclerotherapy is a medical treatment for small thread veins, also known as talangiectasia. It involves injecting the tiny veins with an irritant solution (generally a salt solution) using a very fine needle. It is suitable for most areas of the body, but most commonly the legs and face.
Sclerotherapy is a proven procedure and has been used since the 1930s.

Traditional methods of hair removal can be time-consuming and have undesirable outcomes. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a modern alternative for hair removal with longer lasting results to that of shaving, waxing and chemical depilatories.
The system works by producing light energy which is taken up by melanin, the pigment in the hair. When the melanin absorbs the light, the light energy is converted into heat energy which is then transferred to the hair follicle, leading to destruction of the hair shaft and neighbouring cells responsible for regrowth of the hair.

Acne
Acne is a very common condition affecting nearly every teenager at some stage. The distribution of acne occurs mainly on the forehead, cheeks, chin, upper chest and upper back. It is considered a medical condition when it is more than just occasional pimples or when appearing in later life.
Assessment by a dermatologist ensures the appropriate treatment is prescribed for each patient. The treatments include specialised skin washes, gels and creams, systemic treatments (tablets) including antibiotics, hormonal treatment and Roaccutane (which can only be prescribed and monitored by a dermatologist). We also offer Medical Microdermabrasion, peels and the Obagi Clenziderm system at The Westbourne Centre to minimise and control acne flare ups.
Rosacea
Rosacea is a common rash found on the central part of the face, usually of a middle aged person. A tendency to flush easily is followed by persistent redness on the cheeks, chin, forehead and nose and by crops of small inflamed red bumps and pus spots. Topical treatment and systematic (antibiotic) treatment is recommended such as the Obagi System Rosaclear to control rosacea.
Mole Screening and Removal of Moles
Your mole screening consultation will be with our experienced cosmetic nurse. Detection of early change into either an atypical mole or melanoma is extremely important. With the aid of a dermatoscope (an illuminated hand-held lens with magnification) moles are checked. If required, you will be referred to one of our consultant plastic surgeons who would then remove any moles that are suspicious looking. They can also remove moles for cosmetic reasons.

Semi-Permanent Makeup (SPMU) has gained in popularity exponentially in the last fifteen years. It involves implanting the right colour in the right place so you look better, naturally. It is not an extreme art, but one of subtle harmony. It is the implantation of a pigment suspended in a medium into the dermis, or under the skin, instead of on top as with traditional makeup. SPMU is an alternative to cosmetic pencils applied to the eyebrows, eyelids, lips and other parts of the face.
