Because difficult-to-answer questions often come to members of The Rosicrucian Fellowship, the following explanations are offered. THE ROSICRUCIAN FELLOWSHIP Qualities that Make It Unique Inquirers typically request a comparison between the Fellowship and another organization. Other groups may change from year to year, but it is possible to list certain qualities which together make The Rosicrucian Fellowship unique, even among organizations that use the word, Rosicrucian, in their names. The Rosicrucian Fellowship: 1. Has never been affiliated with any other organization. 2. Does not charge for its teachings. There are no dues, fees, or solicitations. The work is carried on by means of freewill offerings. 3. Emphasizes esoteric Christianity and the devotional/heart path as well as the mind path, its goal being to achieve a perfect balance between head and heart. 4. By its esoteric interpretations of the Bible, sheds light on the Christian mysteries, provides insight into Christ’s true mission and His gospel of love, and prepares students for universal brotherhood. “That Christ Jesus is our ideal” is integral to the Rosicrucian Fellowship program. 5. Recognizes that as differentiated Spirits in God we are reborn again and again in bodies of increasing efficiency on the physical plane to learn the lessons incident to material existence, and to unfold our latent divine potentialities into dynamic powers. 6. Promotes self-forgetting love and service; the ideal is that the teachings be used to help others, not to serve one’s self. 7. Studies principles of right living and practices spiritual healing. The healing work is carried on mainly by work in the invisible planes during the patients’ sleep.

Health and healing in esotericism. The Max Heindel (1865-1919) and the Rosicrucian Fellowship examples. I have devoted part of my research to religious therapy, circumscribing within the religious field a domain which I typified and called “Healing Churches”. The first religions in my sample, Invitation to life and Christian Science, are Christian. The others are not: Antoinism stems from spiritism, Universal Alliance from Georges Roux’s followers and Scientology’s doctrines seem to belong to esotericism. For this reason, my interest in spiritual therapy was oriented towards esotericism, in order to assess the case of therapy and psyche within this “form of thought”. Of course, esotericism is not a healing religion since it is not a religion.

  • 70 5 MESSENGER of the ROSICRUCIANS Max Heindel
5 MESSENGER OF THE ROSICRUCIANS Max Heindel arrived in New York City with very little money, but in high spirits. He rented a little hall bedroom on the top floor of a seven- story rooming house. The Elder Brother’s prediction proved to be true. The style in which the typescript was written did not please him and he set about to rewrite it. He sat through the hot summer days of 1908 typing on an old Blick- ensderfer typewriter from seven o’clock in the morning until nine, some- times ten o’clock, at night. The milkman would leave a quart of milk out- side his door every morning. This, with a few shredded wheat biscuits, sustained him until nine o’ clock when he would go out for his dinner, which often consisted of just a few vegetables. After a walk through the hot streets of New York City, he would again resume work on the type- script, continuing until after midnight. The heat became so intense, that after a few weeks he left New York City and went to Buffalo where he finished the typescript on August 24 , 1908 .181 The next problem to face him was how to get the book published, and where to get the necessary funds. The heat presented difficulties for starting a lecture series in Buffalo, so Heindel went to Columbus, Ohio, where he delivered his first lecture on the evening of November 14 , 1908 , and later that same month formed the first Rosicrucian Center. Mrs Mary E. Rath Merill, an artist, and her daughter, Allene, assisted him in drawing the diagrams for the Cosmo.

  • Prophecy, Cosmology and the New Age Movement: the Extent and Nature of Contemporary Belief in Astrology
PROPHECY, COSMOLOGY AND THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT: THE EXTENT AND NATURE OF CONTEMPORARY BELIEF IN ASTROLOGY NICHOLAS CAMPION A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the University of the West of England, Bristol for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at Bath Spa University College Study of Religions Department, Bath Spa University College June 2004 Acknowledgments I would like to acknowledge helpful comments and assistance from Sue Blackmore, Geoffrey Dean, Ronnie Dreyer, Beatrice Duckworth, Kim Farnell, Chris French, Patrice Guinard, Kate Holden, Ken Irving, Suzy Parr and Michelle Pender. I would also like to gratefully thank the Astrological Association of Great Britain (AA), The North West Astrology Conference (NORWAC), the United Astrology Congress (UAC), the International Society for Astrological Research (ISAR) and the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR) for their sponsorship of my research at their conferences. I would also like to thank the organisers and participants of the Norwegian and Yugoslavian astrological conferences in Oslo and Belgrade in 2002. Ill Abstract Most research indicates that almost 100% of British adults know their birth-sign. Astrology is an accepted part of popular culture and is an essential feature of tabloid newspapers and women's magazines, yet is regarded as a rival or, at worst, a threat, by the mainstream churches. Sceptical secular humanists likewise view it as a potential danger to social order. Sociologists of religion routinely classify it as a cult, religion, new religious movement or New Age belief. Yet, once such assumptions have been aired, the subject is rarely investigated further. If, though, astrology is characterised as New Age, an investigation of its nature may shed light on wider questions, such as whether many Christians are right to see New Age as a competitor in the religious market place.

CHRIST M BUDDHA MRS ANNET C.RICH R05ICRUGIAN- FELLOWSHIP- OGEANSIDE- GAMMA Annett C. Rich Copyright 1914 Rosicrucian Fellowship, Oceanside, California. FOREWORD The following treatise was written by the author at my request, for the purpose men- tioned in the first two paragraphs, and being well fitted by years of study of both Eastern and Western Religious systems to under- take such a commission, she has, in my esti- mation, given a most comprehensive view of the subject. She has taken a most sympa- thetic attitude towards the Eastern teach- ing as becomes an enlightened soul. Thus the spirit of this little book is not contro- versial in any sense, for we do not believe in trying to build up our own religion by casting dirt upon that of other people. We are just as sure that the religion of the East is perfectly suited to the people who live there as that the Christian religion is the religion for the Western people. Were the Buddha teaching today and a student from the West asked his opinion as to whether he should follow him or the Christ, I feel sure that he would direct the inquirer to The Light of the World; and this little book is therefore sent forth in the hope that it may show Western students that THEIR RE- LIGION IS THE CHRISTIAN, and that they should leave the Eastern religion to the Eastern people, while embracing with their whole heart and soul the religion of the Christ. • Rosicrucian Society Essay Meanings of the Rose Croix
ROSICRUCIAN SOCIETY ESSAY MEANINGS OF THE ROSE CROIX TRADITION HARRY V. EISENBERG, M.D., Vl 0 Rose Croix, also called Rose Cross or The Rosy Cross, is an Order whose symbol is a red cross with a white rose at its center. Its founder was the semi-mythical Christian Rosenkreuz, who was a Kabba list and alchemist and founder of the Rosicrucian Order. This symbol exemplified the teachings of a tradition formed within the Christian tenets and represented by the following quote which defined itself: "What think you loving people, and how seem you affected, seeing that you now understand and know, that we acknowledge ourselves truly and sincerely to profess Christ, condemn the Pope, addict ourselves to the true Philosophy, lead a Christian life, and daily call, entreat and invite many more unto our Fraternity, unto whom the same Light of God likewise appeareth?"1 However, the symbol had several meanings depending on the source. From a non sectarian or non-religious viewpoint, represented by a group such as the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, it was said that the rosy cross predated Christianity and that the cross represented the human body and the rose represented man's unfolding consciousness. 2 The Rosicrucian Fellowship and similar rosicrucianists holding an esoteric Christian viewpoint maintained that the Rosicrucian Brotherhood was founded in the early 14th century.3 It began as an Invisible College of mystic sages, as previously mentioned, by a highly evolved entity with the symbolic name of Christian Rosenkreuz, with the mission of "preparing a new phase of the Christian religion to be used during the coming age now at hand, for as the world and man evolve, so also must religion change."4 We can define Rosicrucianism in a generic sense as the study or membership in a philosophical secret society founded in late medieval Germany by Christian Rosenkreuz.

  • The Heindel-Steiner Connection
The Heindel-Steiner Connection By Charles Weber PREFACE This study has been made with a view towards recapturing something of the bold and vibrant eclecticism that characterized the spiritual ambience of the Rosicrucian Fellowship during its first decade of existence. While the study demonstrates many points of affinity between the teachings of Max Heindel and Rudolf Steiner, it is emphatically not our intention to try to make converts to Anthroposophy, the term Steiner later used to designate his body of teachings. Rather do we believe that Christ-emulating, self-forgetting service, an ideal and practice tirelessly stressed by Max Heindel, is the proper focus for the Western spiritual aspirant. The pursuit of knowl- edge is subsumed by and ordered to the practice of this service. Nevertheless, in the application of supersensible truths to our daily affairs—in education, medicine, art, farming, and social organization, to name a few areas—Steiner’s science of spirit shows that Rosicrucian wisdom is eminently practical and ameliorative. Fellowship members can admit to considerable room for development in this direction; that is, we are called to make our higher knowledge fruitful for and directly serviceable to the needs of the four Kingdoms of nature evolving on this planet. All organizations face the prospect of entropy, of becoming ingrown, increasingly conser- vative, tradition-bound, preoccupied with rules, dogmatic and rigid—until they are no longer able to respond to their founding impulse. The Rosicrucian Fellowship needs to remain sen- sitive and compliant to the creative impulses of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of living Truth. Our earnest hope is that this study will help counter the tendency to organizational entropy by promoting a recovery of the open receptive conditions that prevailed at the time of the Fellowship’s inception.
