Also the much admired white angel carved by Georgina Naylor (the daughter of John Naylor who built much of Leighton in the 1840’s- Pauline Evans, John Markwick, Margaret Landgrebe, Jim Evans & Rev Bill Rowell 1860’s) was decorated for the occasion. An exhibition of recent belfry improvements was on display.A team of eager bakers erved delicious cream teas to all throughout the weekend. The exhibition ended with a ‘Songs of Praise’ service on Sunday 14th at 6.30pm. Below is just sample of the many splendid exhibits. SPORTS INTERNATIONALS IN THE VILLAGE Good luck to Kathy Pearce who continues to compete with the Welsh Ladies Bowling Team and no doubt has a very busy summer. Also congratulations to another international athlete from the village, Fergus Stevens, who plays hockey for the Welsh junior team and has just competed and won in Lithuania. After a little more travelling Fergus is taking up a place in Nottingham University to continue his career and we wish him every success. HAPPY 97TH birthday to Doris who will be celebrating with her family on Friday 13th September. - 6 - We had a BINGO evening in Leighton Village Hall back in June when Rod and Di Stevens stepped in at the last minute to help and saved the day for the Village Hall and School. It was a much enjoyed evening and raised £294 split 50/50. The next session will be held on Wednesday evening 6th October at 6.30pm in the village hall so see you all there!
