“A number of years ago, the BIA established a relationship with the Corrections Services Canada halfway house on Keele Street. This arrangement allows the BIA to contact the CSC Employment Counsellor when we require assistance mainly in the form of casual labour.

The CSC staff vet the current residents of the halfway house and send appropriate people to us to help with our BIA projects.

The benefit to the residents of the facility is that it gives them a work opportunity and the benefit to the BIA is that it gives us access to a pool of casual workers. In addition, some business owners have used the same opportunity.

In general, it has proven to be a very successful relationship and the BIA are happy to recommend it to any BIA that requires occasional casual staff. “ Parkdale Village BIA Michael Comstock
