SMP DAYS OF SERVICE (MONDAY 17 APRIL THROUGH SATURDAY 22 APRIL) – OPEN TO ALL!!! All details (days and times for each event) are on our website (www.smp.mccscherrypoint.com) !! Transportation will be provided for all events. Times posted to SMP DAYS OF website will be meet/return times at Roadhouse, but you can also POV separately. Can register as a Command, smaller group, or individually! Max participation for SERVICE!!! these events is requested, operations permitting, per MARADMIN 637/16. Here are some of the events SMP will be hosting during this special week of Service: x Tryon Palace, Camp Caroline, Neuse Riverkeepers Park Clean Ups, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, Veterans Volunteering, Beach Clean Up, Croatan National Forest, Military Missions in Action, Boys and Girls Club, Veterans Organic Garden, Lookout Rotary Road Race, Animal Shelter, Tucker Creek Middle School, and several more!!

APRIL VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES: (LOA’s are provided within 5 days; these are open to ALL active duty service members, dependents, DoD! Transportation provided to active duty, with the priority given to single/unaccompanied active duty service members). x Tyron Palace Lanterns on the Lawn Family Campout Volunteering (3/31 and 4/1). 3/31 – Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return around 1230 (transportation provided). Assist with food prep. SMP Featured o o 4/1 – POV only. Meet at Tryon Palace NLT 1300. Assist with glow walk, s’more making, beverage servers, and guest helpers. You are welcome to also bring your tent and camp Volunteer Events out overnight, but not required! Those that are not staying overnight will be completed at 2230. (Dinner included)! of the Month!!!! o 4/2 – POV only. (For those staying overnight on 4/1, there is an additional volunteer opportunity to help with breakfast and tear down). (Breakfast included)! x SMP Days of Service (4/17 through 4/22). We have lots of opportunities all week long; see our website for complete list/day and to register! x Special Olympics Swim Invitational (4/8). Assist our special Athletes in this fun swim competition. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830. Will return early afternoon. x Azalea Festival Concert Volunteering (4/3 – 4/9); POV only. Volunteer at the Azalea Festival in Wilmington! They are looking for 300 volunteers to assist as concert stagehands, beverage service, ticket service and more! Volunteers will receive free food, drinks, t-shirt, and LOAs. Register to volunteer at www.HonorOurMarines.org. Additional info by calling 910-805-4412. x Tryon Palace Easter Egg Hunt (4/15). Help the kiddos out with their Easter Egg Hunt, assist with crafts and activities, and more! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0830. Will return around 1530. x Neuse River Senior Games (4/24 – 5/12). Volunteer and assist our Athletes at the Senior Games! Activities include: Bocce, football, softball, horseshoes, basketball, shuffleboard, cycling, croquet, track and field, corn hole and swimming. There are a variety of shifts and days available, so please see the SMP website for more information and to sign up. x Camp Corral (4/16): Volunteer to help out our families with Fallen Heroes and Wounded Warriors. Food and beverages are included. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800; will return at 1400 Limited to four volunteers max. x Havelock Boys and Girls Club (M – F). POV only. Volunteer with our local Boys and Girls Club! Assist with mentoring, tutoring, homework, coaching, and activities! Please contact the Boys and Girls Club at 252-444-5437 for additional details. A one-time $10 background check is required. x Veteran’s Organic Garden Volunteering in New Bern (Saturdays 4/8 and 4/29 and Fridays 4/14 and 4/21). We will be assisting the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Gardens with a variety of construction and planting projects! Meet at the Roadhouse at 0800. Will return by 1230. x Volunteer with a Veterans’ Retirement Community – Carteret House (every Monday): Bond with Veterans and swap stories at one of our local retirement communities. Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. x Volunteer with Riverpoint Nursing Home (every Wednesday): Volunteer with our seniors! Attire is service uniform of the day please. Meet at the Roadhouse at 1700. x Animal Shelter (every Saturday): Volunteer at the Carteret County Animal Rescue from 0800-1200. Assist with walking the dogs, meeting with potential adopters, special projects, and cleaning. Meet at the Roadhouse at 0700. x WWII Museum Restoration (on-going M—S; works around your schedule). Love cool history? Want to help save our WWII history?!! Learn how to restore some of the coolest artifacts and VEHICLES from WWII at the Newport WWII Museum. POV only; please contact Frank at [email protected] to set up a time to volunteer! x Special Olympics Spring Games (5/4). We’re looking for a TON of volunteers to help out our Special Athletes during this fun field meet!! Please meet at the Roadhouse at 0745. We’ll return around 1330. Lunch and beverages will be provided. x Reenactment on the USS North Carolina Volunteering (5/18 – 5/21). This is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity with the United States Marine Corps Historical Society! We are looking for a select few Marines to participate in a five-day reenactment aboard the USS North Carolina in Wilmington. Marines will be outfitted in WWII uniforms, eat and lodge aboard the ship, and interact with the public and the ORIGINAL crew of the USS North Carolina, the highest decorated battleship in WWII. Marines will be also able to learn about and participate in the amazing history of Marine Corps Heritage in WWII. Month!!!! x SMP Council Meeting (4/13 at 1430 at the Roadhouse): ALL ARE WELCOME!!! SMP is YOUR program, so come fill us in on your recreation ideas, volunteering ideas, and QOL initiatives. x Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (4/25 @ 1730-2300) SMP is throwing a HUGE party for our volunteers, complete with a delicious (free!) Italian Dinner, music, games, and awesome prizes! If you’ve volunteered for SMP, we want to show our appreciation to you!! (Open to all who have volunteered for SMP regardless of marital status, service branch, rank, etc.). x Extreme Driving Simulator (4/7 @drop in anytime from 1000 -- 1500; Naval Health Clinic parking lot). Join us in this FUN one-of-a-kind event with the NC State Highway Patrol. The NC State Highway Patrol will be bringing a 3D virtual driving simulator for participants to experience firsthand the effects of impaired driving. The event is being held in the parking lot of the Naval Health Clinic Cherry Point and will be open from 1000-1500 for all to drop in and try the simulator. x Fishing Seminar (5/11). Learn from the local experts on fishing techniques, resources, locations, and strategies! For beginners or avid anglers. 11 May from 1700 – 2000 at T&E Building, room 171. Pick and choose which games you want to enter (including Family Feud, the Newly(dating) Game, Hollywood Squares, Press Your Luck, and Name that Tune)! Games kick off at 1830, but show up whenever and have some fun! x Rockin 80’s Party and Cookout! – FREE FOOD (4/13 1800-2300): Rock Thursday night with SMP’s 80’s PARTY!! We’re firing up the grill and we will be serving food at 1900! WE WANT TO SEE YOUR BEST 80’s OUTFITS. BRING YOUR METAL HAIR, MULLETS, LEG WARMERS, SHOULDER PAD, MC HAMMER PANTS, and NEON COLORS!!!! Basic knowledge of golfing and golf course etiquette requested please; all skill levels highly encouraged - x SMP Carolina Rebellion Concert and Camping Trip (5/4 - 5/7) $169. Includes 4 days of camping, 3 full days of concerts, special VIP Campground Concert on Thursday night, and transportation!! Show line-up includes performances by , Chevelle, Avenge Sevenfold, , , , , , , All That Remains, Skillet, Citizen Zero, , Sum42, , Of Mice and Men, , and MANY MORE!!!
