The Senior and Junior Dance group performed at the Hunter Dance Festival in Week 2. The seniors were glorious in sparkling colour and danced beautifully, receiving many compliments about their lovely manners and fabulous behaviour. The juniors were super cute in their bright sparkly outfits and also received many compliments. Congratulations and well News done to all the dancers and many thanks to all the parents for their support and encouragement in allowing students to participate in this exciting activity.

On Thursday of Week 3 Branxton Public School celebrated Public Education with an exciting showcase of our students’ talents for Education Week. The School Band opened the Assembly and then we listened to the Infants’ and Primary Choir and watched the Senior and Junior Dance Groups perform. The Public Speaking representa- tives shared their speeches with us. Great practice for the competition later in the term. After lunch there was a book character parade with students having the opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character. There was an awesome array of costumes - some of our parents are very creative! Thanks to the family and friends who braved the wet weather to come along to share the celebrations.

Save the date! BPS students and staff will be presenting “The Boscars” concert on Thursday 15th September. Classes are working on their items!

Guest speaker Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon (centre) at the annual School Leaders’ Breakfast

Today students from across the Cessnock Local Government Area heard from guest speaker Paul ‘The Chief’ Harragon at the annual School Leaders’ Breakfast. Cessnock City Council General Manager, Stephen Glen said the event is held as part of Local Government Week and is a unique opportunity for students to learn from people who have incredible stories to tell. “I’d like to thank Paul Harragon for sharing some important life lessons and encouraging our local students to set their sights high”, said Mr Glen. Giving the students an insight into the highs and lows of life as an elite athlete, Paul Harragon explained how he went about achieving his ultimate goal of playing for Australia. Paul Harragon encouraged the students to start setting their own goals, even if it is just a few daily goals and then a weekly goal, it will get you in the habit of checking off things you have achieved. “Then when you start working towards bigger goals never forget you will get tested along the way and the biggest tests come just before your goal is realised”. Students and teachers were captivated by his charismatic presentation which included clips from throughout his career, his appearance on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and his recent Coast to Coast trek of Papua New Guiea raising awareness and funds for cancer research. The theme for Local Government Week 2016 is ‘Our Council, Our Community’ and is was celebrated by councils across NSW from August 1 – 7. Branxton & Vineyards Real Estate 4938 3300
