SHRI UDAY PRATAP SINGH SHRI CHANDRA PRAKASH JOSHI SHRI LAXMI NARAYAN YADAV: Will the Minister of WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: (a) the salient features of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme implemented by the Government along with the funds allocated/released and utilized thereunder during each of the last three years and the current year, State/UT and component-wise; (b) the number of children and women benefited under the scheme particularly from SC and ST categories during the said period, State/UT-wise; (c) whether the Government has received proposals from States/UTs, particularly from Madhya Pradesh for universalization of scheme, setting up of anganwadi centres and launching new child development projects; (d) if so, the details thereof, State/ UT-wise along with the reaction of the Government thereto; and (e) the pending proposals in this regard along with the time by which these are likely to be approved? ANSWER MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (DR.VIRENDRA KUMAR) (a) The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Scheme was launched in 1975 with the following objectives: (i) to improve the nutritional and health status of children in the age-group 0-6 years; (ii) to lay the foundation for proper psychological, physical and social development of the child; (iii) to reduce the incidence of mortality, morbidity, malnutrition and school dropout; (iv) to achieve effective co-ordination of policy and implementation amongst the various departments to promote child development; and (v) to enhance the capability of the mother to look after the normal health and nutritional needs of the child through proper nutrition and health education. -
