International Eurochestries contest “Young talents of classical music” 2021 SAXOPHONE JURY Daniel GREMELLE (France) Born in 1963 in the Pas de Calais (Northern France), Daniel Gremelle has won numerous saxophone first prizes. He began his studies at the age of 16 at the Douai Conservatory where he was unanimously awarded a gold medal in 1983. In 1984, he was unanimously awarded a First Prize with congratulations from the jury of the city of Paris. In 1985 he won a First Prize of Honour at the Bellan contest (France). In 1987, he was unanimously awarded the First Prize at the UFAM international com- petition in Paris; the same year, he was unanimously awarded the First Prize with congratulations from the jury at the competition for young performers of the city of Dunkerque, as well as the medal for best soloist. The following year, in 1988, he won the First Prize in the National Competition for Musical Interpretation in Aix les Bains and a First Prize at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in the class of Daniel Deffayet. In 1989, he won the Grand Prix at the Paris International Saxophone Competition at Radio France. He was the first to be nominated by the “Guilde Française des Artistes Solistes” and is the only saxophonist in the world to have obtained this distinction. Finally, in 1990, he was unanimously awarded the First Grand Prize at the «Adolphe Sax» International Competition. Solo saxophone of the National Orchestra of the Paris Opera since 1990, he is frequently and regularly asked to play in prestigious orchestras such as: The National Orchestra of France, the Ensemble Orchestral of Paris, the Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestra of Paris, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Radio France, the Orchestra of the Capitole of Toulouse, the Orchestra of the Scala in Milan, the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra... This has allowed him to play under the direction of great conductors such as Pierre Boulez, Myung-Whun Chung, David Robertson, Michel Plasson, Georges Prêtre, Kent Nagano, Semyon Bychkov, Jeffrey Tate, James Conlon, Claudio Abbado, Ulf Schirmer, Seiji Osawa and Lorin Maazel... www.eurochestries.org International Eurochestries contest “Young talents of classical music” 2021 His career as an international soloist has taken him to the world’s greatest concert halls in Japan, Brazil, China, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Slovakia, the Canary Islands and Taiwan. A confirmed teacher, he is professor of saxophone at the Conservatoire National de Région de Rueil-Malmaison (France) and director of the Billaudot publishing house. He is also the creator of numerous concertos for saxophone and orchestra, of which he is the dedicatee, and he premiered the last work of Pierre-Max Dubois: the 2nd saxophone concerto with the Douai Symphony Orchestra; the premiere of Armando Ghidoni’s concerto in Italy with the Trento Philharmonic Orchestra; the premiere of Patrice Sciortino’s Sonances in Slovakia with the Kosice Orchestra; the French premiere of Michael Nyman’s «Where The Bee Dances» at the Salle Gaveau with the Orchestre Colonne, the premiere of Michiru Oshima’s concerto in Japan with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, and with the Orchestre de Picardie, Francine Aubin’s saxophone concerto.
