But as of today that situation has changed, and so I feel the need to add two points to this document. At the start of the anime season in April of 2013, three all-new robot anime series debuted. These were Production I.G.'s “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet," Sunrise's “Valvrave the Liberator," and Dogakobo and Orange's “Majestic Prince of the Galactic Fleet." Each was broadcast in a late-night timeslot and succeeded in building fanbases. The second new development is the debut of the director Guillermo Del Toro's film “Pacific Rim," which was released in Japan on August 9, 2013. The plot involves humanity using giant robots controlled by human pilots to defend Earth’s cities from gigantic “kaiju.” At the end of the credits, the director dedicates the film to the memory of “monster masters” Ishiro Honda (who oversaw many of the “Godzilla” films) and Ray Harryhausen (who pioneered stop-motion animation techniques.) The film clearly took a great deal of inspiration from Japanese robot anime shows.

We offer a historical account of the development of “the Mobile Suit Gundam” series from a producer´s perspective and show how a combination of convergent and divergent strategies contributed to the success of the series, with a special focus on games. Our case can show some insight into underdeveloped aspects of the theory of transmedial storytelling and the Japanese media mix. Keywords Transmedia Storytelling, Media mix, Intellectual Property, Business Strategy INTRODUCTION The idea of transmediality is now more relevant than ever in the context of media production. Strong recognizable IPs take for example more and more space in the movie box office, and even the Producers Guild of America ratified a new title “transmedia producer” in 2010 1.     MASARYKOVA UNIVERZITA FILOSOFICKÁ FAKULTA ÚSTAV FILMU A AUDIOVIZUÁLNÍ KULTURY ANIMOTÉKA STUDENTSKÉ KINO ZS/2 0 14 ANDREA STAŠKOVÁ, UČO 428213 BRNO 15.5.2014 ANOTACE Animotéka chce být projektem Studentského kina, aby ve dvanácti (pod)zimních večerech v kině Scala přinesla širší veřejnosti povědomí o opravdovém potenciálu animovaného filmu a vymezila se tak všudypřítomnému mýtu „animáků jakožto filmů pouze pro děti“. Pestrý program, včetně rozmanitých doprovodných akcí, chce nabídnout svébytná díla z různých koutů světa i časových období, a to jak narativní celovečerní snímky, tak dokumentární, experimentální i užitnou tvorbu rozličných technologií a stylů. Animotéka chce pod střechu Scaly prostřednictvím strategické propagace a atraktivního programu nalákat především dospělé diváky všech vrstev i zaměření. Dosud tvořili nezanedbatelné jádro publika studenti, pracovníci a přátelé FAV, jež nacházeli zájem hlavně v sofistikovaném programu i akademické přidané hodnotě. Tento aspekt chceme zčásti zachovat, ovšem díky programu, který bude přitažlivý pro mnoho zájmových skupin a komunit, věříme, že do kina pozveme širší spektrum veřejnosti. Animovaný film není žánrem, ale technikou, která svým částečným odklonem od „reality“ nabízí možnosti, jaké hraný film nemůže nikdy naplnit. Winter 2014 About the Front Cover When I asked Brian, who I’ve been friends with since High School, if he’d like to do a cover for the first issue of Breaking It All Down - The ‘Zine, he didn’t provide one cover, he provided two. After we decided which one to use for the first cover, I asked if I could use the second for the ‘zine’s second issue, and he said sure. About the Artist Brian A. Caslis is an artist living in Oregon. You can find more of his work at http://greencoat7.tumblr.com/ Breaking It All Down – The ‘Zine has reached its second issue! Hurray! In the time between issues, I’ve been swamped with schoolwork (boo), but I have been able to go to OryCon and say hello to Ben Yalow, Susanne Thompkins, and Jerry Kaufmann (yay). However, alas, due to all the excellent panels I went to, I didn’t get to spend as much time with them as I would like (boo). Though, I was able to meet some new people as well (yay). I also had a continuation of my Introduction to Anime series in Chris Garcia’s The Drink Tank (issue 361), which can be read at eFanzines.com. While the first part covered series from after 2001, that article covered some older series. This issue has the conclusion of the introductory sequence, with an article covering SF and fantasy manga. I do want to take a moment to give an open call for people who are interested in doing cover art for the fanzine.
