And, it took off in a big way! Two years ago, my perfectionist husband gifted me one for my birthday, and my daughter painted it right away! And, then I waited... :-) It was finally installed today! I am beyond excited. Our first book was taken within minutes, by these wonderful neighbour kids up the street in exchange for Nancy Close 1626 7208 Kananaskis Drive SW Calgary AB two of their lovely novels. This Little free library is located at the Capitol Hill Park. Built at a workshop hosted by Councillor Druh Farrell, this little free library was designed and painted by community resident and illustrator Carolyn Fisher. It is a small addition to the revitalization of this inner city park and is maintained by the Carolyn Fisher 5928 1531 21 Avenue NW Calgary AB Capitol Hill Community Association. We assisted one of the local city Councillors in constructing 30 LFL for Calgary Joe Starkman 5926 28 Sterling Spring Cres Calgary AB communities. This is one of them. From the yearly book fair, to frequent trips to the local library we have always been aware of Kathi's love of reading. For her most recent birthday we bought her this little library so that she could share her love of books, learning, and adventure with others in our neighborhood. -
Great Britain May 19 – 29, 1995
Great Britain May 19 – 29, 1995 Friday/Saturday, May 19–20 – Los Angeles to London After a full day at work and a Santa Monica “Tommy’s Run” with our RAND co-worker Edson Smith (double chili-cheeseburgers, yum!), we got ourselves to the airport and on our British Airways flight. Claire and Alla were on our flight, too; they arrived at the airport, a little later than advised, with Ken and Rod. Both Robert and I were curious as to how the encounter with Rod would go; turned out not so bad, just a little tentative (I certainly had very little to say). After six years, what could one expect? At any rate, Claire and Alla did not get seats together, and wanted to try to fix that, so we left Ken and Rod at the security checkpoint pretty quickly and went to the departure gate. There Claire and Alla did manage to get their seats rearranged and wound up together just a few rows behind us. The flight left about 20 minutes late, at 9:30 PM, and I enjoyed six good hours of sleep 1, missing the food service, but awaking to find Immortal Beloved playing. How perfect it seemed; enjoying German music on a British flight. It really made me look forward to seeing Johannes Weissler and his very British brother Ulrich! We arrived at Heathrow at 3:35 PM local time Saturday. We had a very speedy pass through customs; it was probably an advantage coming into British Airways dedicated international terminal (#4), with most passengers on the flight having European Community (EC) passports. -

Landmarks Preservation Commission January 13, 2009, Designation List 409 LP-2286
Landmarks Preservation Commission January 13, 2009, Designation List 409 LP-2286 275 MADISON AVENUE BUILDING, originally 22 East 40th Street Building (aka 273-277 Madison Avenue; 22-26 East 40th Street), Borough of Manhattan. Built 1930-31; Kenneth Franzheim, architect. Landmark Site: Borough of Manhattan Tax Map Block 869, Lot 54. On June 24, 2008, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing on the proposed designation as a Landmark of the 275 Madison Avenue Building and the proposed designation of its related Landmark Site (Item No. 2). The hearing had been duly advertised in accordance with the provisions of law. Three people, including a representative of the building’s owner and representatives of the Historic Districts Council and the Municipal Art Society, spoke in favor of designation. Summary Rising 43 stories in height and completed in 1931, 275 Madison Avenue is an outstanding Art Deco skyscraper dating from the end of New York’s 1920s and early-1930s skyscraper boom. Designed by noted architect Kenneth Franzheim, the building features a striking polished-granite base; three stories high with tall rectangular openings, it was treated by Franzheim as a “stage setting” with a compelling black-and-silver color scheme and rich abstract ornament. Rising above the base is a dramatically massed, slab-form tower that steps back repeatedly before narrowing to a nearly square plan at its upper floors. Like the nearby Daily News Building completed the year before, 275 Madison is best described as a transitional work, bridging the exuberant, “modernistic” Art Deco style and the spare, sculptural qualities of the International Style. -
Japanese Animation Guide: the History of Robot Anime
Commissioned by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs Manga, Animation, Games, and Media Art Information Bureau Japanese Animation Guide: The History of Robot Anime Compiled by Mori Building Co., Ltd. 2013 Commissioned by Japan's Agency for Cultural Affairs Manga, Animation, Games, and Media Art Information Bureau Japanese Animation Guide: The History of Robot Anime Compiled by Mori Building Co., Ltd. 2013 Addition to the Release of this Report This report on robot anime was prepared based on information available through 2012, and at that time, with the exception of a handful of long-running series (Gundam, Macross, Evangelion, etc.) and some kiddie fare, no original new robot anime shows debuted at all. But as of today that situation has changed, and so I feel the need to add two points to this document. At the start of the anime season in April of 2013, three all-new robot anime series debuted. These were Production I.G.'s “Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet," Sunrise's “Valvrave the Liberator," and Dogakobo and Orange's “Majestic Prince of the Galactic Fleet." Each was broadcast in a late-night timeslot and succeeded in building fanbases. The second new development is the debut of the director Guillermo Del Toro's film “Pacific Rim," which was released in Japan on August 9, 2013. The plot involves humanity using giant robots controlled by human pilots to defend Earth’s cities from gigantic “kaiju.” At the end of the credits, the director dedicates the film to the memory of “monster masters” Ishiro Honda (who oversaw many of the “Godzilla” films) and Ray Harryhausen (who pioneered stop-motion animation techniques.) The film clearly took a great deal of inspiration from Japanese robot anime shows. -

The Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise
The Mobile Suit Gundam Franchise: a Case Study of Transmedia Storytelling Practices and the Role of Digital Games in Japan Akinori (Aki) Nakamura College of Image Arts and Sciences, Ritsumeikan University 56-1 Toji-in Kitamachi, Kita-ku, Kyoto 603-8577 [email protected] Susana Tosca Department of Arts and Communication, Roskilde University Universitetsvej 1, P.O. Box 260 DK-4000 Roskildess line 1 [email protected] ABSTRACT The present study looks at the Mobile Suit Gundam franchise and the role of digital games from the conceptual frameworks of transmedia storytelling and the Japanese media mix. We offer a historical account of the development of “the Mobile Suit Gundam” series from a producer´s perspective and show how a combination of convergent and divergent strategies contributed to the success of the series, with a special focus on games. Our case can show some insight into underdeveloped aspects of the theory of transmedial storytelling and the Japanese media mix. Keywords Transmedia Storytelling, Media mix, Intellectual Property, Business Strategy INTRODUCTION The idea of transmediality is now more relevant than ever in the context of media production. Strong recognizable IPs take for example more and more space in the movie box office, and even the Producers Guild of America ratified a new title “transmedia producer” in 2010 1. This trend is by no means unique to the movie industry, as we also detect similar patterns in other media like television, documentaries, comics, games, publishing, music, journalism or sports, in diverse national and transnational contexts (Freeman & Gambarato, 2018). However, transmedia strategies do not always manage to successfully engage their intended audiences; as the problematic reception of a number of works can demonstrate.
