JKT48 as the New Wave of Japanization in Indonesia Rizky Soraya Dadung Ibnu Muktiono English Department, Universitas Airlangga Abstract This paper discusses the cultural elements of JKT48, the first idol group in Indonesia adopting its Japanese sister group‘s, AKB48, concept. Idol group is a Japanese genre of pop idol. Globalization is commonly known to trigger transnational corporations as well as to make the spreading of cultural value and capitalism easier. Thus, JKT48 can be seen as the result of the globalization of AKB48. It is affirmed by the group management that JKT48 will reflect Indonesian cultures to make it a unique type of idol group, but this statement seems problematic as JKT48 seems to be homogenized by Japanese cultures in a glance. Using multiple proximities framework by La Pastina and Straubhaar (2005), this study aims to present the extent of domination of Japanese culture occurs in JKT48 by comparing cultural elements of AKB48 and JKT48. The author observed the videos footages and conducted online survey and interviews to JKT48 fans. The research shows there are many similarities between AKB48 and JKT48 as sister group. It is then questioned how the fans achieved proximity in JKT48 which brings foreign culture and value. The research found that JKT48 is the representation of AKB48 in Indonesia with Japanese cultural values and a medium to familiarize Japanese culture to Indonesia. วารสารวิชาการ Veridian E-Journal Volume 7 Number 4 January – June 2014 ผลงานสร้างสรรค์ ฉบับ International The Memory Machine Millie Young Abstract The purpose of this paper aims to discuss the suitability of material for the animated documentary, looking specifically at texts of a biographical nature, and discussing the mechanisms employed and issues with interpreting oral narratives and memory. From the analysis, I aim to suggest guidelines to my Thai undergraduate animation students so that they may gain ideas about the suitability of material and mechanisms that may help to create an animated documentary. The paper will discuss materiality: i) in terms of animation and it’s suitability for documentary. ii) with regard to the subject material to tackle an animated documentary iii) in relation to creating a story structure from oral narratives and memories and the mechanics of construction to get an authentic truth in an animated documentary Because the nature of animated documentaries is so broad, I have, for this paper, narrowed it to the sub category: subjective autobiographical and biographical works that encapsulate personal oral narratives from memories. I will focus on traumatic memories, which retell a event from a personal perspective, which is skewed by the teller’s own perspective in order to discuss the difficulties of memory itself. This category offers many examples of works to support further analysis and investigation by the students and appears to be particularly suited to the animated form. Introduction The purpose of this paper is to discuss the suitability and materiality of the animated documentary, looking specifically at texts of a biographical nature, and discussing the mechanisms employed and issues pertaining to interpreting oral narratives and memory. -

BAB I PENDAHULUAN 1.1 Latar Belakang Jepang memiliki kebudayaan populer yang beragam salah satunya, ldol group. Idol mempresentasikan diri mereka sebagai orang yang terlihat resik, ceria, dan riang dikarenakan awal bangkitnya musik Idola di Jepang ditandai dengan adanya gadis-gadis ceria muncul di acara televisi Jepang. Fuji Tv salah satu stasiun televisi di Jepang mempunyai program All Night Fuji yang berisikan gadis-gadis lugu dan periang, namun fenomena idol di Jepang sempat redup dikarenakan masyarakat Jepang yang mulai bosan dengan konsep idol yang hanya menyanyi dan menari di televisi. Para Idol dituntut mempunyai talent dan ciri khas dalam menghibur pengunjungnya seperti berbicara dengan logat ala moe-moe (berbicara seperti layaknya anime Jepang) atau eyewink (mengedipkan mata) saat menyanyi dan menari ke fans dan diharapkan para fans semakin mengidolakan sang idola. Idol you can Meet sendiri adalah konsep idol yang dapat ditemui langsung oleh Fans, mereka dapat menemui oshimen (anggota idol grup 2 yang disukai) dan berjabat tangan dengan mereka (handshake) melalui pertunjukkan musik di theater.
