    "EMERGING TOGETHER" In celebration of Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month I. Introduction A fact that might surprise many people in the United States is that over half of the world’s population (58%) is Asian. The U.S. population is becoming increasingly diverse, probably the most diverse in the world. According to the 2000 Census, Asian Pacific Americans are the fastest growing minority group in the country, now comprising over 4% of the population. (However, Hispanics had the largest increase in population from the 1990 Census.) Like other immigrants who brought their unique culture and heritage to America, Asian Pacific American influence and contributions have Asian Americans have been a permeated almost every facet of American life.
