Press Release Press Release JANUARY 28, 2020 2020 Renault Sport Academy line­up announced ­ Six countries from four continents represented in 2020. ­ Guanyu Zhou, Christian Lundgaard, Max Fewtrell and Caio Collet retained for 2020. ­ New recruits Oscar Piastri and Hadrien David confirmed. Renault Sport Racing is excited to confirm its multinational 2020 Renault Sport Academy line­up with two new recruits Oscar Piastri and Hadrien David joining Max Fewtrell, Christian Lundgaard, Guanyu Zhou and Caio Collet on the programme. Australian Oscar, 18, signs with the Academy by virtue of winning the 2019 Formula Renault Eurocup, while 15­year­old Frenchman Hadrien joins as part of the prize for winning last season’s French Formula 4 Championship. Oscar confirms his place with reigning champions Prema Racing in the FIA Formula 3 Championship and will be joined in the series by Briton Max Fewtrell, who will contest a second season with a switch from ART Grand Prix to British outfit, Hitech. Hadrien progresses his career to the Formula Renault Eurocup with MP Motorsport where he will compete against Eurocup Rookie Champion Caio Collet from Brazil, who remains with R­ace GP for a second year. In the FIA Formula 2 Championship, the primary Formula 1 support series, Chinese talent Guanyu Zhou is set for a second season with UNI­Virtuosi, aiming to build on an impressive, podium­filled debut campaign. Danish teen Christian Lundgaard steps up to Formula 2 this year and will race for ART Grand Prix following a strong rookie outing with the French squad in Formula 3 last season. Academy members will draw upon Renault’s experience in motorsport to help them improve as drivers in their respective championships. As well as working to a personalised training and development programme, drivers will continue to assist the Formula 1 team particularly with simulator sessions at the headquarters in Enstone. Renault Sport Academy Director, Mia Sharizman: This year’s line­up is the strongest we’ve had in the last four years of the Renault Sport Academy. We’ve struck a balance between experienced and rookie drivers and we believe we can compete for titles across all junior championships in which we’ve entered our members. As the years progress, we are moving closer to the point where we want to have an Academy driver in contention for the Formula 1 race seat. We remain hopeful that this year is a breakout year for this to happen. We already know what Max and Christian can do, and they are entering their fourth year on the programme. We were also pleased with how both Zhou and Caio performed in their first season with the Academy. All drivers have their own targets this year, which they know they have to meet. It’s great to welcome two very talented individuals in Oscar and Hadrien and it’s exciting to see what they can do this season.     Friday 16 July 2021 Piastri dominates in Silverstone to take maiden pole Oscar Piastri became the fourth different polesitter in as many rounds with a dominant performance at Silverstone, setting the fastest lap of the session in the first stint, before a Robert Shwartzman crash brought out a Red Flag and ended Qualifying prematurely. Championship leader Guanyu Zhou snuck into second with a late lap but was 0.221s off Piastri’s poletime of 1:39.854. MP Motorsport’s Richard Verschoor scored his best Qualifying position with third, just over four-tenths off the leader. Christian Lundgaard escorted the field out onto a hot and sunny Silverstone circuit, with a track temperature of 42 degrees. Lapping at 1:40.962, Felipe Drugovich led the first round of fast runs, beating Dan Ticktum’s Free Practice topping time by more than a second. There was enough life left in the medium Pirellis for another flyer and Piastri was determined to make the most of it, lunging to first with 1:39.854. Meanwhile, Drugovich was bumped down to third by Ticktum, although the Carlin driver remained half a second off Piastri. After a stint in the pits for fresh rubber, the field returned to the track with just a second separating the top 12. Piastri couldn’t make any improvements on his quickest time, but neither could his rivals, with the Australian retaining his half a second buffer in first. Zhou was left thanking his lucky stars as the UNI-Virtuosi racer crossed the line just moments before a Red Flag ended the session.

    GUANYU ZHOU TO DEBUT IN AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX Alpine F1 Team is pleased to confirm Guanyu Zhou will participate in his first-ever Formula 1 practice session at the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix this weekend. Zhou, currently Test Driver for the team and Alpine Academy member since 2019, will be handed his F1 weekend debut for the first practice session of the event, taking Fernando Alonso’s A521 for the duration of the one-hour practice. Zhou joined the Academy at the start of 2019 on the back of three consecutive years in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. He claimed Top Rookie in his maiden season in the 2019 FIA Formula 2 Championship after securing five podiums throughout the campaign. In 2020, Zhou recorded his first Formula 2 win in the Sochi Sprint Race – becoming the first mainland Chinese driver to win an international single-seater race, on his way to sixth place in the Championship. The 22-year- old currently leads the 2021 Formula 2 series after three rounds with two victories in Bahrain and Monaco and has two further podiums to his name. Zhou will become the first Chinese driver in eight years to participate in an F1 weekend. He was also the first Chinese driver to drive a Formula 1 car on the streets of a downtown Chinese city when he took the Renault-powered E20 Formula 1 car to the streets of Xintiandi, the fashion district of his hometown Shanghai, in 2019.     Clermont-Ferrand (France), October 31, 2014 Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin evaluating 17- and 18-inch tyres Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin share the same vision that motorsport permits innovative technologies to be fostered in a competitive environment with a view to achieving closer ties with the technologies that are available to the motoring public. Accordingly, the two partners are currently exploring the feasibility of switching to 18- and 17-inch tyres for the Formula Renault 3.5 Formula Renault 2.0 championships respectively from 2016. An initial test session based on Formula Renault 3.5 cars was carried out at Valencia, Spain, followed by a second featuring Formula Renault 2.0 cars at Barcelona, again in Spain. Given the positive results achieved at these tests, Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin are pleased to announce their intention to pursue this joint-development programme, and further sessions are planned over the months ahead. Since January, the collaboration between Renault Sport Technologies and Michelin has enabled the two companies to collect a significant amount of data after completing several hundred kilometres in testing. The two entities are carefully studying the results of this groundwork in order to obtain a thorough understanding of the repercussions any changes in tyre dimensions might have for the drivers, as well as in terms of grip and suspension performance. As far as factors such as top speed, road holding, tyre wear and the wear of other components are concerned, the early conclusions are positive. Despite requiring a certain number of small modifications, the cars feature a more modern look and benefit from enhanced cornering performance.
