The University is established as a Malaysian initiative and prime mover to cham- pion e-Education, affirmed at the ACD Ministerial Meetings in Islamabad (2005) and Doha (2006) and supported by 35 ACD member countries. It collaborates with Institutions of Higher Learning (IHLs) and Training Centres in the ACD mem- ber countries to offer quality and affordable academic degree and profession- al training programmes. AeU acts as a facilitator and enabler for IHLs in Asia on mutual accreditation and recognition of the academic degree and professional programmes and leverage on the sharing of resources and facilities. As a spearheading institution of choice in the new wave digital learning, AeU is the major catalyst in promoting the Asia wide networks for cooperation in digital education today. AeU’s PhD programmes are tailored made for the independent, self-motivated student who has the strong desire for a world-class education. School of Graduate Studies (SGS) helps students in independent research with the guidance of supervisor(s) and workshops, as well as provides personalized support for its Asian-centric doctoral programmes. Students can select qualified supervisors from a pool of expertise in business administration and management, education, ICT, finance, humanities, and social & behavioural sciences research areas. In line with global standards, SGS appoints renowned academicians from world-class universities as its external examiners. Flexibility in learning, independence in study, research with deep impact, outstanding faculty members who are lead- ers in their fields, and the finest resources in academia—these are the distinguishing characteristics of PhD fully by research programmes at AeU. The PhD programme’s format makes it feasible and practical to pursue this high qual- ity doctoral degrees by research while still meeting your commitments to work and family. Designed to fit individual schedules, the programme can be successfully completed from home, work or even while travelling. Since the inception of AeU in 2009, through the School of Graduate Studies, it has produced 89 PhD graduates, of whom 60.7% (54) were Malaysians, and the remaining 39.3% (35) were international students from Vietnam, Indone- sia, the Gulf Countries, India, Pakistan, Canada, Singapore, USA, Maldives, New Zealand, Ghana and Mauritius.
