Day One Saturday 19th December 2020

After pick up from your door as usual, you’ll be taken to Brisbane airport for your early morning flight to Launceston. We’ll fly with you and Peter will pick up our hire bus in Launceston and your Tasmanian Christmas Adventure begins. We’ll take a scenic drive along the north coast of Tasmania, passing through towns like Devonport, Penguin and Burnie until we arrive at Stanley, a romantic town sitting on a slender sliver of land jutting out into the Bass Strait on Tasmania's northwest coast. It is remarkable for its incredibly well-preserved colonial buildings and its massive volcanic plug The Nut…… Dinner at our Hotel tonight, our home for 2 nights. Day Two Sunday 20th December 2020 After a hot and hearty breakfast at our Hotel, we’re in for a real treat as we tour with Woolnorth Tours. The tour consists of three main elements. The first is an up-close visit to the cliff top towers of the Woolnorth Wind Farm and information centre. The second is a visit to the Woolnorth historic precinct, while driving through dairy lands of the Van Diemen's Land Company, VDL Farms (established in 1826), 's largest dairy farm. Finally, a visit to breath taking Cape Grim where we see the wonderful coastline, breathe the Cleanest Air in the World, and witness all the islands off the NW coast of Tasmania. Morning tea included.

Then we can enjoy some free time in the cute little village of Stanley. (Lunch in town own expense today). Peter will then take us to visit Highfields Historic Site. Perched overlooking Stanley and The Nut, on a windy promontory, Highfields represents a stunning example of early colonial architecture from the Regency Period (1811-1820). From the large French windows of the homestead, visitors are treated to dramatic views of the rugged coastline and Bass Strait beyond. We can walk through the old homestead, outbuildings and surrounding gardens and immerse ourselves in the history of this significant property so intrinsically linked to the development of the Circular Head community.

What better way to take in the breathtaking views of the historical and picturesque coastal village of Stanley than from a leisurely chairlift ride to the top of the intriguing local attraction known as The Nut! The core of an extinct volcano, this fascinating geological formation stands at 152 metres and towers above Stanley, providing stunning 360-degree views of the township, Bass Straight, and the Rocky Cape National Park. Dinner at our Hotel tonight. (B)(D)

Its two-tiered structure and unique rock formations make it well worth a look. Time permitting, we’ll take in the Big Tree, with a circumference of nearly 17 m at its base!

Strahan, a harbour-side village with a dark and fascinating convict past set on the edge of the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area. Nestled on the shores of massive Macquarie Harbour, Strahan is the gateway to the World-Heritage listed Franklin-Gordon Rivers National Park. Strahan is full of stories from the days of convicts and pioneers toughing it out in Tassie’s wild west. These days, Strahan is an iconic travel destination with shops selling artisan wares and eateries serving up delicious local produce.

Day Four Tuesday 22nd December 2020

After a wonderful breakfast at our Hotel, we’ll experience one of the most scenic and sought after cruises with one of Tasmania's largest eco-tourism cruise operators, local family owned and operated World Heritage Cruises. What a day we have planned for you. Hear the intriguing story of Macquarie Harbour and its settlement; Passage through Hells Gates, the narrow entrance to Macquarie Harbour named by the convicts on their way to Sarah Island; See high-tech aquaculture where hundreds of thousands of Tasmania’s famous Atlantic Salmon and Ocean Trout are farmed; Cruise past the majesty of the rugged mountain ranges in Tasmania’s World Heritage listed South West Wilderness National Park; We’ll spend two hours in the serenity of the imposing , complete with a stroll into the rainforest, which reclaimed the land after the last Great Ice Age.

We’ll step ashore Sarah Island and see some of Australia’s oldest convict ruins, a settlement which pre-dates Port Arthur by decades. Created to put the 'fear of God' into the convicts of Van Diemen’s Land, this tiny outpost of 18th Century British penal history hides a fascinating tale of human triumph over adversity, brought vividly to life by expert guides.

Listen to the skipper’s live commentary, which brings the river and its rich history to life. Tis truly is an unforgettable experience on the Gordon River. Also included today with our gold class seating is a sumptuous buffet lunch freshly prepared on board - includes smoked salmon, cold meats, a selection of salads, fresh fruit, Tasmanian cheeses and local bakery bread in Strahan, Tasmania. If you have room left, dinner will be at our Hotel again tonight. (B)(L)(D)

Strahan Village (03) 6471 4200

Day Five Wednesday 23rd December 2020

It will be sad to leave beautiful Strahan this morning. But the fun isn’t over We’ll travel through Queenstown, the largest town in Tasmania’s West. It’s surrounded by dramatic hills and mountains and was once the world’s richest mining town. The copper mining and mass logging in the early 1900s created a surreal and rocky ‘moonscape’ of bare coloured conglomerate. The scenic drive into Queenstown down a spiralling road is nothing short of spectacular and a testament to the brutality of Tasmania’s mining past.

After lunch (included today) in Derwent Bridge, we’re off to visit the Wall in the Wilderness. It’s Australia’s most ambitious art project – there’s nothing like this anywhere else in Australia! The Wall is a world class experience! The beautifully carved works set out in relief sculpture depict the history, hardship and perseverance of the people in the Central Highlands and pay homage to the individuals who settled and protected the area. The artist, Greg Duncan, is known for his uncanny realism he brings to his work and his pieces are sought after by collectors around the world.

Then we’ll drive into Hobart, our home for 3 nights. Dinner at our Hotel tonight. (B)(L)(D) Hotel Grand Chancellor (03) 6235 4535 – right on the waterfront!
