Abstract In this essay I will analyse in depth Jim Butcher’s and George R.R. Martin’s female protagonists in Butcher’s Dresden Files and Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire. The essay will demonstrate how both Butcher and Martin depict their female protagonists and companion characters and how their female characters cope with violence in a different manner than how most female writers let their characters do. Moreover, I will analyse and explain how Butcher and Martin’s female protagonists and companion characters are good examples of strong female characters. Both series will be discussed and analysed separately, and subsequently compared to each other, as well as to similar series by female authors, in order to demonstrate how Butcher and Martin depict their female protagonists differently from female authors. Swartz The Hugo Awards originally were called the Science Fiction Achievement Awards and first were given out at Philcon II, the World Science Fiction Con- vention of 1953, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The second oldest--and most prestigious--awards in the field, they quickly were nicknamed the Hugos (officially since 1958), in honor of Hugo Gernsback (1884 -1967), founder of Amazing Stories, the first professional magazine devoted entirely to science fiction. No awards were given in 1954 at the World Science Fiction Con in San Francisco, but they were restored in 1955 at the Clevention (in Cleveland) and included six categories: novel, novelette, short story, magazine, artist, and fan magazine.

  • Cold Days: a Dresden Files Novel Ebook Free Download
COLD DAYS: A DRESDEN FILES NOVEL PDF, EPUB, EBOOK Jim Butcher | 656 pages | 03 Sep 2013 | Little, Brown Book Group | 9780356500959 | English | London, United Kingdom Cold Days - Wikipedia This book was a difficult read. Not because it was badly written, or because it sucked Butkus in any way. It's because this is the first book that deals with Harry Dresden coming back from the dead Amazing as always! I am thrilled that we're back to having James Marsters be the narrator, because he's the best and his voice is the voice that brings this series to life for me. Cold Days opens with Cold Days. Jim Butcher. I'm not going to hope that Jim Butcher hurries. I want him to take his time and write it how he wants. But there are times I do wish I could skip ahead to when the book is released and start reading it already! View all 3 comments. Dec 12, Heidi The Reader rated it liked it Shelves: fantasy-and-sci-fi , urban- fantasy , fiction. I liked having Harry back on this side of the veil, but I was so-so about the rest of Cold Days , the latest entry in The Dresden Files. Being mostly dead is hard on a guy. Harry Dresden, wizard for hire, is now the Winter Knight after a series of misadventures and serious adventures in the past couple of books. And the position isn't very much fun. The winter fae are hardcore. They're mean, full of tricks and generally happy to kill without consideration for any consequences.

  • As Above, So Below: the Rebma Sourcebook
AS ABOVE, SO BELOW: THE REBMA SOURCEBOOK for Amber Diceless Role-Playing by Mark Jason Durall In those days the world of mirrors and the world of men were not, as they are now, cut off from each other. They were, besides, quite different; neither beings nor colors nor shapes were the same. Both kingdoms, the specular and the human, lived in harmony; you could come and go through mirrors. One night the mirror people invaded the earth. Their power was great, but at the end of the bloody warfare the magic arts of the Yellow Emperor prevailed. He repulsed the invaders, imprisoning them in their mirrors, and forced upon them the task of repeating, as though in a kind of dream, all the actions of men. He stripped them of their power and their forms and reduced them to mere slavish reflections. Nonetheless, a day will come when the magic spell will be shaken off. The first to awaken will be the Fish. Deep in the mirror we will first perceive a very faint line and the color of this line will be like no other color. Later on, other shapes will begin to stir. Little by little they will differ from us; little by little they will not imitate us. They will break through the barriers of glass and metal and this time will not be defeated. Side by side with these mirror creatures, the creatures of water will join the battle. "Fauna of Mirrors" Jorge Luis Borges The Book of Imaginary Beings (Avon Books, 1969) Thanks to: All of the following people whose playtests, ideas, and suggestions have helped shape this sourcebook: Advice and criticism came from Carol Dodd, Jennifer Jerlstrom, Don Woodward, and David Kubanek.
