SPAIN - Activity Report 2013 SPAIN ACTIVITY REPORT 2013 AETOS (Asociación Española de Túneles y Obras Subterráneas) C/ Jenner Nº 3-1º Derecha 28010 Madrid (Spain) Web: www.aetos.es Email : [email protected] /[email protected] AETOS is a National Private Association with79 institutional and 235 individual’s members. AETOS working groups are currently working on drafting regulations, technical publications and inventories of tunnels. Some groups organized courses with their members for training. At other times, they focus the work in line with the activities that are developing the ITA working groups, for example doing translations of documents, or similar researches. Active Working Groups are: WG0 – Listing of Tunnels, Recommendations and Technical Publications WG1-5 – Health and safety in works. WG2 – Research WG3-18 – Contractual practices. Education. WG6- 12 – Maintenance, Repair and Shotcrete use. WG9-15 – Underground, Environment and Seismic effects. WG14-17-19 – Mechanisation of excavation, Base tunnels, Conventional tunnelling. WG11-20 – Urban Problems, Underground Solutions.     Basques in the Americas From 1492 to1892: A Chronology “Spanish Conquistador” by Frederic Remington Stephen T. Bass Most Recent Addendum: May 2010 FOREWORD The Basques have been a successful minority for centuries, keeping their unique culture, physiology and language alive and distinct longer than any other Western European population. In addition, outside of the Basque homeland, their efforts in the development of the New World were instrumental in helping make the U.S., Mexico, Central and South America what they are today. Most history books, however, have generally referred to these early Basque adventurers either as Spanish or French. Rarely was the term “Basque” used to identify these pioneers. Recently, interested scholars have been much more definitive in their descriptions of the origins of these Argonauts. They have identified Basque fishermen, sailors, explorers, soldiers of fortune, settlers, clergymen, frontiersmen and politicians who were involved in the discovery and development of the Americas from before Columbus’ first voyage through colonization and beyond. This also includes generations of men and women of Basque descent born in these new lands. As examples, we now know that the first map to ever show the Americas was drawn by a Basque and that the first Thanksgiving meal shared in what was to become the United States was actually done so by Basques 25 years before the Pilgrims. We also now recognize that many familiar cities and features in the New World were named by early Basques. These facts and others are shared on the following pages in a chronological review of some, but by no means all, of the involvement and accomplishments of Basques in the exploration, development and settlement of the Americas.

    Eroski Reaches an Agreement with Sabeko Banaketa to Acquire 10 of Their Supermarkets in Bizkaia

    Press Release Eroski strengthens position in the North EROSKI REACHES AN AGREEMENT WITH SABEKO BANAKETA TO ACQUIRE 10 OF THEIR SUPERMARKETS IN BIZKAIA The stores in the operation are situated in Basauri, Bilbao, Erandio, Galdakao, Getxo and Santurtzi EROSKI will maintain all the staff in all the stores With these ten stores, EROSKI expects to open 75 supermarkets in 2020 Elorrio, 10 March 2020.- EROSKI has reached an agreement with Sabeko Banaketa to acquire a set of ten supermarkets with the Simply banner in Bizkaia. The stores in the operation are situated in Basauri, five in Bilbao, one in Erandio, one in Galdakao, one in Getxo and another one in Santurtzi and take up an approximate commercial area of 8,500 square metres. EROSKI is carrying out this operation as part of a plan to strengthen their presence in the regions where they are a leading operator and have a relevant position, such as the Basque Country. The operation requires the approval of the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC). Once the operation has been authorized, EROSKI expects to renovate the stores in order to adapt them to the “with you” model, fostering the promotion of healthy and sustainable eating, with a focus on and a strong commitment to seasonal local fresh produce as well as a more personalized service to the client. EROSKI plans to maintain all the jobs and subrogate the working conditions of the staff of all the stores they have acquired. “The agreement we have concluded today to add ten supermarkets to the group contributes to achieving the target of 75 store openings in 2020.
