With the approval of the Board of Management, the University established six Schools of Studies and one Institute of Research for the smooth conduct of its academic and research activities. The University has also established the Centre for Internal Quality Assurance to ensure quality higher education. The University endeavours to run all the academic activities of the disciplines under the purview of these six Schools named after some renowned personalities of Assam to commemorate their contributions to the greater Assamese society and culture.

The School of Social Sciences has been named after the great historian of Assam Dr. Surya Kumar Bhuyan. There are seven disciplines under this school which are Economics, Education, History, Philosophy, Political Science, Sociology and Social Work. These disciplines provide PG, UG, Diploma and Certificate programmes.
Padmanath Gohain Baruah School of Humanities
The School of Humanities has been named after the great litterateur and the first President of Axom Xahitya Xabha, Padmanath Gohain Baruah. There are mainly three disciplines under this school– Assamese, English, Sanskrit and Ancient Studies. However, under the discipline of Assamese, three languages, namely Hindi, Bengali and Bodo have been included as Modern Indian Languages. MA in English The syllabus of the revised MA English Programme has been designed in such a way that it maintains the standard of the syllabi of English Programmes in other national and international universities of repute. The MA English Programme aims to generate an interest in literature, inculcate a spirit of critical enquiry and develop analytical and creative faculties among the learners. The Programme begins with a basic introduction to English literature, its various sources and forms. However, as the Semesters progress, new areas of literature and literary studies including Criticism and Theory are also introduced. The Post Graduate Diploma in Yoga Programme will be promoting positive health, prevention of stress related health problems and rehabilitation through Yoga. The programme aims to impart skills to introduce Yoga for health to general public and Yoga for total personality development of learners in Colleges and Universities, thereby invoking scientific attitude and team spirit to channelise their energies in to creative and constructive endeavours. It shall also enable the learners to establish Yoga Therapy centres in the service of common man.
