I want to comment on John Spillane’s article in the June issue of The Meadoword titled “Schemes, Scams, and Cons.”

Two of his points really hit home for me. About ten days ago, I received a call with a Utah Caller ID location. Since I do have friends in Utah, I answered it. The caller told me that, since I purchased a security program in October, he wanted to update my system—blah, blah, blah.

I was suspicious because I would not have purchased a program online since I do everything through my local “computer guy.” I listened for a few minutes and hung up. John Spillane’s article confirmed that my instincts were right, and for that I am grateful.

The second bit of information is more important. I am plan ning a lengthy cross-country car trip this summer and will use my Kindle Fire to connect to my computer at home and- retrieve my emails.

I would never have thought of protecting myself with an anti-malware program, and now I will most

certainly do so.

He may well have saved me from being “slammed” while on the road.

Thank you, John, so much for your most helpful and informative article.
