The following expectations and policies should be observed during all SUNN related events, including practices, swim meets, and social activities sponsored by the team. Expectations 1. All athletes, parents/guardians, and staff members should be mindful that they are representing SUNN Swimming. Common courtesy, good sportsmanship, and respect should be shown towards team mates, competitors, and others present in the same facilities. 2. Practice makes perfect! Athletes are expected to attend practice regularly so as to build fitness and develop proper skills needed for competition. 3. Attend as many meets as possible. Racing is the best way for a swimmer to gauge his or her improvements and to regain motivation to train hard. 4. Specific Swimmer Behavior Expectations: o Be attentive and listening when a coach is talking. o Be respectful of coaches, teammates, equipment, and facilities. § This includes things such as acting politely to all coaches and teammates, keeping hands and feet to yourself, and following instructions given by coaches regarding equipment and facilities. o Always try your best. o Have fun! Discipline Policies Failure to follow the rules above may result in the following discipline policies being enacted: 1. First incident of the day will result in being asked to sit out. 2. Second incident of the day will result in being asked to sit out for 5 minutes 3. Third incident of the day will result in the swimmer being asked to exit the pool, get dressed, and call their parents to come and pick them up after speaking with one of the coaches. 4. Disclaimer: Extreme cases such as violence, uncontrollable profane and disrespectful vocal outbursts may result in the first two steps being bypassed and the swimmer being excused from practice to call their parents to be picked up. Miscellaneous Diving: Swimmers should not perform dives (or jump into the pool) unless instructed to do so by a coach or lifeguard. Diving into the shallow end of the pool and/or within close proximity of other swimmers is extremely dangerous. Swimmers who have not learned the proper procession of dives (sitting, kneeling, squatting, standing) should not attempt to use the starting blocks. SUNN Swim Team insurance does not cover the Sunnyvale Middle School recreational diving board. Swimmers should not hang on it, dive from it, or play on it. Unsafe weather: In the case of severe storms, thunder, and lightning, practice will be canceled. The pool area and locker rooms should be immediately evacuated. 3 Unsafe pool conditions: In the case of unsafe chemicals or contaminations including fecal matter, practice will be canceled and the pool should be immediately evacuated. To avoid fecal accidents, parents/guardians should encourage their swimmers to use the restroom prior to practice. Failure to comply with expectations and policies may result in appropriate discipline, ranging from exclusion from an activity to removal from the team. If any misbehavior becomes significant, parents will be notified. Apparel and Equipment Swim Suits Popular swim suit brands for both genders include Speedo, Nike, Reebok, TYR, Dolphin, and Arena. An ideal suit minimizes drag and represents SUNN Swimming. Team suits are available to purchase (order form available online at SUNN.org.) Girls: Two piece, halter top, and tankini swim suits should not be worn for competition and are generally discouraged for practice. A snug-fitting suit with racer-back style straps in black, plain/navy blue, or yellow is ideal. Boys: Swim trunks, board shorts, and rash guards should not be worn for competition and are discouraged for practice. A snug-fitting suit jammer, square legged, or classic Speedo-cut suit in black, plain or navy blue, or yellow is ideal. Caps Swim caps are available in latex, silicon, and fabric (lycra). There are caps with fun designs that might appeal to your swimmer. If you need a SUNN cap, please ask any coach. Goggles Competitive swimmers should wear goggles that have an adjustable head strap. Some goggles come with interchangeable nose pieces, which can prevent problems such as leaking and falling off during dives. Brands such as Speedo, Nike, and TYR make goggles for children for competitive training and races. Swimmers will work on drills, which are modified strokes that will enhance their understanding of how their bodies move through the water. 3. Skills: Depending on their skill levels, swimmers will learn skills such as flip-turns, dives, underwater dolphin kick, and breaststroke pull-downs. 4. Warm-down: The advanced and intermediate groups may occasionally have a warm-down, which is a short, easy swim following strenuous exercise, that allows the body to flush soreness-causing acid out of the muscle cells. Swim Meets What to Bring Swimmers are expected to bring at least two towels (one per event is recommended), a SUNN swim cap, goggles, sandals, sunscreen, and a swim suit. While a suit designated to competition is not necessary, a suit in the colors black, blue, or yellow should be worn to swim meets. Please see Apparel and Equipment section for suit recommendations. Swimmers should also wear either the SUNN Summer Team T-shirt, SUNN apparel (order form available online at SUNN.org), or any other blue or yellow clothing. Although snack bars are available at some meets, it is often more convenient to bring healthy foods (such as sandwiches, energy bars, and fruit) and plenty of liquids. SUPERIOR PERFORMANCE EXTREME RESULTS THE GAFFRIG STORY… In 1984, James Gaffrig, a long time family friend and my father’s partner on the Chicago Police force for more than 10 years, left the force armed with a talent for building quality, marine-capable speedometers and gauges, and the ambition to turn this talent into one of the most respected businesses in the boating industry. I began working with Jimmy when he opened his first shop in Chicago in 1984. It was here that he began manufacturing what are still known today to be the best gauges in the trade. Shortly after bringing these gauges to the forefront of the industry, Jimmy began engineering a series of Gaffrig mufflers, silencers, flame arrestors and throttle brackets. Soon, like Gaffrig gauges, these products proved to the boating industry that Gaffrig was synonomous with quality. For several years I worked closely with Jimmy, building the business through personal dedication and quality craftsmanship surpassed by no one. Sadly, in 1992, my friend and mentor, James Gaffrig, passed away. I purchased the business shortly there- after and continue to strive each day to operate and expand the Gaffrig line with the same passion set forth by James Gaffrig so many years ago. Our commitment in 1984 remains the same to this day...to be the best manufacturer of boating accessories, providing the serious performance boater with unsurpassed quality, performance, innovation and service. I am dedicated to continuously researching new product ideas, as well as ways to improve Gaffrig’s current product line. Most importantly, I listen to the feedback of you, my customers.

  • 5904 OXF LRR Summary DR4.Indd
Labour rights and sportswear production in Asia Summary Summary “We are all aware of the risk of unemployment in deciding to organise a union and we are prepared to face this risk...But at the same time we do look around us and think to ourselves: Why be unemployed? Why face the misery of it? Why not just put up with the exploitation from the managers? But then a long series of reasons not to organise start spreading out before us, the issues never end. The only way that the issues can end is if we build power among ourselves to change our conditions and treatment. And the only way we can really do this is by forming a union.” Marayah,1 30-year old woman sportswear worker dismissed from the Busana Prima Global factory in Indonesia for participating in a strike. While global sports brands generously sponsor the world’s top sporting teams and players, the women and men in Asia who make their goods struggle to meet their families’ basic needs. When these workers attempt to form unions to push for better conditions, they commonly suffer discrimination and often violence and dismissal. Nike pays USD $16 million (13 million Euro) a year to the Brazilian national football team and adidas pays USD $1.8 million (1.5 million Euro) per year to French player Zinedine Zidane. Meanwhile the Asian workers who make the football boots and other sports gear worn by players are paid as little as 47 cents Euro (US$0.60) per hour — 3.76 Euro (US$4.75) for a standard working day.

  • Antitrust and Competition
Antitrust and Competition Antitrust and C ompetiti on Overview Antitrust and Competition law can touch every aspect of a firm's business. It goes far beyond traditional concerns about price fixing and mergers and acquisitions. Today, antitrust and competition law affects product distribution practices, procurement, employee recruitment and compensation, restrictive covenants, intellectual property licensing and many other aspects of a firm's operations. Antitrust threats and opportunities An antitrust attack is often a major life event for a business. Government antitrust investigations (from federal, state and foreign enforcement agencies) can disrupt a firm's operations and sideline its key executives. Civil and criminal charges can frequently have severe consequences for the firm and its participating executives; and private damage claims can reach into the billions of dollars. Antitrust and competition issues can thus present concerns that go to the heart of the business enterprise. There is, however, a flip side. Just as antitrust and competition law can be a threat, it also provides opportunities. Sophisticated, well-counseled firms use antitrust offensively to protect their markets, open access to new ones and ensure that they are free to compete on a level playing field. Katten's Antitrust and Competition attorneys are adept at helping their clients avoid the legal risks and seize the opportunities presented by antitrust and competition laws. • 2021 Speedo Sectionals at Indianapolis Safety Plan
USA SWIMMING 2021SPRING SPEEDO SECTIONALS Central Zone Section 3 March 24 – 28 , 2021 SAFETY PLAN INTRODUCTION: In November of 2020, the partnership between Indiana Swimming and the Indiana University Natatorium resulted in the successful and safe hosting of two high-level swimming competitions The Return to the Nat and the Toyota U.S. Open Championships at the iconic Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis. The safety procedures and COVID-19 mitigations planned for and executed at those two events have continued to serve as models for aquatics facilities across the country about how to safely return to competition during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March, Indiana Swimming will again be partnering with the Indiana University Natatorium to host multiple events including the USA Swimming’s Speedo Sectionals from Wednesday afternoon, March 24, through Sunday, March 28. Realizing that hosting a meet using the pre-COVID-19 model will not be possible this March, many hours have been spent creating a new Speedo Sectionals hosting model that follows all the current guidelines of the CDC, State of Indiana, Marion County, the City of Indianapolis, Indiana University, and USA Swimming and will ensure the safety of all the participating athletes, coaches, staff members, and volunteers. This USA Swimming event will be conducted at two sites – the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis and at Elkhart Health & Aquatics in Elkhart, IN, thus reducing the number of athletes and coaches at a typical Sectional event by 50%. To reduce the number of hours that participants spend in the Natatorium, this meet will be swum in a timed-finals format with only three shorter sessions per day.
